I know, this isn't the most pleasant topic to talk about, but nevertheless, a household chore which can't be neglected. Since your bathroom is one of the most germ-ridden places in your home, getting some proper cleaning tips makes for some useful advice. Especially when one's bowl develops those gross rings and other slimy buildups. I'm sure we all make the bathroom a priority when it comes to cleaning. And Ignoring the toilet bowl can be detrimental to your health! When we flush particles are projected into the air and spread around the room. This harmful bacteria can add up, "causing mold, and mildew, which can cause skin, eye, and throat irritation," according to this online article published in Hello Giggles. When I clean the toilet area I find a product cleaner which contains bleach. I've either sprinkled comet or used Lysol Disinfectant, a squirt bottle which contains bleach. Something I did never thought about that was mentioned in the article is to let the cleaner sit for an hour to break up stains, a very good idea. Then it's on to the scrubbing brush and getting after those nasty stains which require extra effort. When finished cleaning try pouring a pot of hot water in the bowl before flushing. That should help loosen any icky debris if some remains. Another great article tip and one I will try out! And as a finishing touch you can add a nice scent to your bathroom by putting a couple of drops of essential oil on your roll of toilet paper. So, time to dish the dirt... How do you go about cleaning your toilet bowl? Do you use any of the methods in this post? How often do you clean your toilet? Source: Hello Giggles Photo- lovetoknow.com

I love that toilet wand. I like the fact you toss the scrubbie thingy, and there is not a toilet brush in the corner or in the cabinet or wherever. Seems much cleaner and sanitary to me, and well worth the extra expense.

@MarieCoyle Sounds like a great idea and efficient Here's another good pointer from the article- pour hot water into the toilet bowl as a quick pre and post clean rinse. Another tip: It doesn't hurt to use an antibacterial wipe and give the seat and flush handle a once over at the end of the day. My way of getting at those hard to reach smaller places on the toilet bowl is to use an old toothbrush. Makes for a through cleaning.

@dgobucks226 It could vsd. But don't think just detergent is gonna remove hard water stains. Maybe bleach might have an impact.

Yes, those stains are tough to clean thoroughly for sure. Here's something you can try but I'm not guaranteeing perfection, lol. The article also said A good way to start is to pour hot water into the toilet bowl as a quick pre and post clean rinse. After leaving the detergent on for an hour this helps loosen things up before scrubbing. Maybe it will help?

I've got to try them. Others have also mentioned them and seems like they do a very good job. My way of getting at those hard to reach smaller places on the toilet bowl is to use an old toothbrush. Makes for a through cleaning. Have you ever tried it?

I clean as often as it needs it. I've often let it stand while I cleaned the rest of the bathroom and then finished up with the bowl.

I do a through cleaning once a week and touch up each day using an antibacterial wipe giving the seat and flush handle a once over. My way of getting at those hard to reach smaller places on the toilet bowl is to use an old toothbrush. Makes for a through cleaning. Have you ever tried that idea?

I get a lot of hard water deposits in my toilet bowl, so I also get as much water out of the bowl as I can, then use a pumice stone to work off the deposits. After that, THEN I can do the disinfecting.

A new method to try out Another tip I need to pay more attention to - use an antibacterial wipe and give the seat and flush handle a once over at the end of the day. Another tip I discovered- My way of getting at those hard to reach smaller places on the toilet bowl is to use an old toothbrush. Makes for a through cleaning. Have you tried that one?

We just had a new toilet installed; and I want to keep it looking brand new. Our little housekeeper takes care of our cleaning needs as we can no longer do a lot of it.

Pass on these tips if she is not through enough. One thing I try to remember to do is use an antibacterial wipe and give the seat and flush handle a once over at the end of the day. Since their are so many germs in the bathroom.

Although I live alone, I clean my bowl so often that rings and stains do not develop. I flush my toilet every time and put chorine when I clean it, usually after I use it so that I can let it stan for a couple of hours. I also have lysol which I spray even in the basin and on the floor,

@dgobucks226 No. I think that the Lysol spray is more than enough. The toilet looks clean so it must be clean

A word about bleach. I use it but sparingly. My hubby says bleach is hard on our septic tank.

Thankfully we built our house so have never had to deal with bad staining. I use a toilet cleaner regularly. The essential oils are a good idea.
