My son went kayaking with his friend over the weekend. On a cloudy day. And didn't put on any sunscreen. And now's he's paying the price. The sun's rays will get you, even on cloudy days. I hope he learned his lesson. He's going to be feeling this one for quite a while. I almost feel sorry for him. lol Have you ever gotten sunburned really bad?

Me too. But usually only mildly. This kid is going to blister soon and peel all over. He's in for a rough week. And sadly for him, it's spring break for him this week, and he's going to be hurting too badly to do anything.

@moffittjc I wish him "hot" 17-year-olds feeling his pain and giving him gentle kisses right on the lips. Unless he's like me and more into sports than girls.

I've been badly sunburned, it's miserable! Why? I didn't use any sunscreen! I hope your son is feeling better, real soon:) Vinegar works to ease that pain.

His mom has lots of aloe growing at her house, so he has been breaking off pieces of the aloe plants and rubbing it all over his legs. It's not going to stop the blistering and peeling, but it will help relieve some of the itching and pain.

@kobesbuddy I have some gel here at my house that has a numbing agent in it, works really well, but with me having Covid I can't give it to my son to use. I don't want to take any chances whatsoever of giving him the virus.

@moffittjc I hope the aloe works on his sunburn, to ease that pain. Sleeping is the worst part or should I say, trying to sleep? Even covering with a sheet hurts.

@moffittjc I've learned I can't be outdoors in the heat longer than an hour, two at most before my heat intolerance kicks in. My amrms and legs are pretty dark from all the years living under the florida sun.

@kaylachan Even after living my entire life here in Florida, I have never developed a tolerance to the heat. I, too, can only stand being outside for maybe 2 hours at a time. I sweat profusely in the heat and lose hydration quickly if I stay out too long.

Well, he's young, so he's still learning his limits. I, too, now know my limits. If I am going to be outside for any extended period of time, I always make sure to put on sunscreen.

I have had bad sunburns and used cold sour cream right away. Now I cannot tolerate that hot sun so when it gets hot in the summertime I always find shady spots to sit in,

In defense of my son, he was out kayaking on a chilly, cloudy day. He didn't think he would get sunburned through the thick clouds. But guess what, even on cloudy days one can get sunburned!

Oh, your poor son.! Yes, too many times, but I finally learned my lesson. I received a bad sunburn sitting around the pool in Rio on a cloudy day with drizzle. And it was our last day and I had a 12 day old tan.

Those sunburns can creep up and get you at any time if you're not careful. We sometimes let down our guard a little bit when we already have a nice base tan.

@just4him He tends to be a spender and not a saver, so it will be interesting to see how he manages his money this summer. I have been talking to him over the past few months about setting savings goals, now we'll see if he is disciplined enough to follow through. I guess it will all depend on how bad he really wants a car.

@moffittjc Not only that, but I was supposed to be quartermaster, which in the Navy is navigations. It would been a good gig. I wound up going in as a ship's servicemen. They run the ship's stores, vending machines, and laundry, and some are also barbers. I didn't do the barber thing. But I did run the laundry and a ship's store. I think if I would have went in as a QM I might have opted to stay in.

OUCH! Yes, I have. Almost every time I go outside I get a sunburn. Even when I'm wearing sunscreen. (Someone once thought I was lying about how easy it is for me to get sunburned, so while we sat talking on break one day, I sat by the window with the shades drawn. There was only a thin line of sunshine falling on our table, so I put my forearm into the strip and held it steady while we had our break. When break was over, he couldn't believe that I had a thin strip of sunburn on my forearm.)

@moffittjc No, the doctors told me to stay out of the sun as much as possible after they removed the skin cancer. They said it's possible for me to get skin cancer again if I get too much sun. I just told someone else that I am sprouting fangs but not to tell Pretty because she'll blame vanny for turning me into a vampire.

Ouch! That's some real burn and probably hurts like hell. The arms don't seem as burned as the legs, unless that is the way the pic came out. By the way, what size are his feet? I burned pretty bad when we went on vacation to Washignton, DC a number of years ago, some time in August. I did not think to bring sunscreen there or that I needed it there. That was a mistake. And I think I got burned while walking in Arlington cemetery of all places.

Yeah, his arms didn't get as burned as his legs, so maybe it all had to do with the angle in which he was sitting in the kayak. He wears size 11 shoes, which is about where I was when I was his age. I wear size 12, so I'm sure he'll be wearing size 12 shoes in the not-so-distant future.

@lovebuglena It sure looks like it, doesn't it? A lot of people guess that. But in all honesty, he's not that big or tall. He's very skinny and lanky, so it makes his feet look bigger than they really are.
