I am thinking about buying a 3 wheel adult bike

I live in a senior development and I am thinking about buying a 3 wheel adult bicycle. I am doing some research on these bikes but would love to find out from people that have one. Does anyone here have one or know someone that has one. I would like to know the pros and cons of such a bike. I have seen some that range from $400 and up but before spending that kind of money I would like to know first hand from people that might know the good and bad about these. I think I am going back into my childhood days. Sometimes I think I am already there. Of course my family thinks I am crazy, but I have always been a little crazy. Can't stop me now.

I think that's a great idea! I don't own one, but I have seen this one lady in the neighborhood riding around in hers while her husband/friend rides his bike. They both wear helmets and a fluorescent vest (she has one of those tall orange flags in back too). The width of course is wider than a 2 wheeler . . . so I am extra careful if I have to drive past her in the street.

@much2say I figured I would wait a little as sometimes I get these ideas in my head and then spend the money and in a short time it gets put aside. I am thinking about renting one for a few days to see if I like it.

I live in a big senior development so the people are aware of others that ride any kind of "adult" bike.

About a hundred years ago mom bought and rode a three wheeled bike. We'd ride bikes along with her. Her trike was really stable. I never saw her have an accident while riding the trike.

@ramapo17 Oops! You made a typo there, hon. You wrote "79" when I believe you meant to write "22". You're welcome.

Thanks for the encouragement. I need all the help I can get. I will be 79 in July but my mind hasn't aged with my body.

Thank you very much for saying that Eva. I have seen a few people in our community with them so maybe I will see if I can talk to one of them.

When I was a child growing up, my neighbor (a retiree) had one, and he used to let us kids take turns riding it. We loved riding that bike, almost as much as our 2-wheeled bikes. I would say that probably the only downside to them is that you can't lean into turns like you do with regular bikes. But otherwise, I think they're great bikes. I would love to have one of my own someday.

@ramapo17 Everything is fully open here now. At least where I live. The only restrictions are that indoor venues (restaurants, theaters, etc) have to operate at 50% capacity. And in our county it is still mandatory to wear a mask in public, But other than that, it's business as usual.

Hi Jeff, glad to see you hear. I was surprised how quiet this site has become. I wasn't on for awhile as it seems like family things kept coming up that we had to tend to. I keep thinking about this bike but will have to try one out before I spend the money on it just to sit in the garage. Is everything open by you? How about your jobs, are they open totally?

I think that’s a wonderful idea. You can use it to get around and get exercise at the same time. I know some who use golf carts. I’m still able to zip around town on my two wheeler.

I haven't been on a bike for years. I know the old saying about once you can ride a bike you never forget how to ride one. I'll let you know if that is true.

When we moved here my husband wanted to buy a golf cart. I told him we do not need one as we live right near the pool, lake and recreation center. If we cannot walk to them, then it is time to stay in the house,,,

How have you been Judy? I haven't seen you on here for a long time but then again, I haven't been on for any length of time and when I started again, I realized many of the people I wrote to wasn't here any longer. Things change and some people must find different sites to check out.

@ramapo17 Mostly I'm actually here a lot but the last month I suppose I've been a bit busy with other things - and now we're putting our house on the market so that will eat into my myLot time too.

I am curious why you will need a 3 wheel adult bike because it is not so common for an adult to ride on it The advantage of it is that this kind of bike is stable and you don't even need to know how to ride a bike and you won't fall down anyway. As to the disadvantage, perhaps it is not so convenient because it is a bigger size?

Yes, they are bigger than a normal bike but there are different sizes.

I do not own one myself, but they look so easy to get around with. Alot of people who have seasonal lots at campgrounds have these or a golf cart.

I can't offer any opinion on an adult bike but I've seen those 3 wheelers and they look so cool.

At least here in my community, it is a gated place so no one is in here that is not planned for so there is not any traffic.
