Do you plant trees and name them after your kids?

We didn't do this when our two children were young, but when we started having grandkids (well, our children had them, but you know what I mean.) we planted a tree when the grandkid was very young. We would let the little one help did a hole, plant the tree, and water it. From then on, the tree would be called by the child's name. The first one is a Gingko tree that has beautiful yellow fan shaped leaves that cover the ground in the fall. It's a very tall, narrow tree and so pretty. The second one was a red dogwood that the grandson called his Red Dog tree. Third is a Tulip tree that's in full bloom right now. I'll try to get a photo up for it. Fourth kid got what we call a Grandfather bush/tree. When it's blooming, it looks like it's covered in a white fluff. First great granddaughter has a Red Bud tree that I love. It has very delicate purple/pink blossoms early in the spring. Unfortunately, I think the tree has died. We'll have to plant another one. Do you have any traditions with your kids or grandchildren?

I have a couple of mango saplings from our own mango tree, I give them away and others are still waiting for whoever wants them. I hope they name them after me.

Maybe they will! I love mangos, but they're not grown locally here.

@1creekgirl they grow a lot here, those saplings are from over ripe fallen fruits, I can't stand seeing a seed struggle and grow and not be allowed to live so I pot them in discarded containers or plastic bags and give them to whoever wants them. They also make good bonsai plants, they would be alive long before we are gone.

How many fur babies do you have? We only have one cat, Gracie, but she's an outside pet.

Those are gorgeous trees. We used to buy living pine trees when our daughters were little, use them as Christmas trees, and plant them afterwards. However, we live in a condo now, so that is practical. Enjoy!

I love the idea of planting trees after Christmas. We can't have a live tree in the house because of allergies.

@1creekgirl - Yes, allergies were sometimes a problem with the living trees. One of our daughters had problems. We eventually went to an artificial tree.

I never named a tree after a person. Although I do have a bush I call my bee tree because during summer it's filled with them, lol. P.S. it also attracts a lot of butterflies..

We were given two trees by Vince's brother and his wife. They were named after them and there are now lots of siblings appearing all around the parent trees. But that is a lovely tradition you have there.
