Finally, an intellectual discussion with Horse Jr.

As many of you know, Horse Jr. is my pretend son. I met him when he was three, and we have learned math, learned reading, learned history, learned swimming, learned cycling, and learned Bach together ever since. His mother moved from here to North Carolina six months ago. She is a Trump/Alex Jones supporter and a Covid denier, but we are still supportive of each other. The kid agrees with her about politics, but also accepts my belief in science, music, sports, and testing hypotheses. Today, we finally got to talk for an hour. We argued about him going back to (real) school. He thinks it's a waste of time. We argued a bit about Covid. He thinks it's not real. We argued about whether things are different in the internet generation v. the television generation. (I think I did a good job of explaining how my parents were mortified about my obsession with Lost in Space). But at least we got to talk. We agreed that childhood friends are important, and that they can become friends for life. We agreed that we both like Bach more than Beethoven. I hope he enjoys his experiences in school and makes "real world" friends there. And I hope his mom and I can continue to be mutually supportive, in spite of our political differences. What's up in your world?

I remember the post in which the kid wanted to give his piggy bank savings to Pony. For a kid that is a big possession. He liked Pony so much. I am so glad he remembers Pony and calls him up on his own. As kids there have been many in life, who are remembered faintly, but mostly forgotten.

It was a real pleasure. He and I like to "argue," but in a friendly way. Without knowing it, he has picked up my "intellectual" leanings.

Well, the Easter Bunny brought you a lovely "egg" this year. Good to hear that Junior is still keeping in touch. What's up in my world? The sky, moon and stars...

@BarBaraPrz I see stars tonight. A good sign. I hope the sky is still up there tomorrow. And that I wake up to see it. No adverse effects from the second Covid shot so far.

@rakski I wear a mask when I am not alone or with close friends. But we no longer "have" to in parking lots if we've been vaccinated.I have.

It's good to have someone grounded for discussions, like you. Politics is sometimes we agree to disagree at, many times.

I think it's important to validate both sides, and then consider specific issues and possible solution to those issues. Older kids can be involved in the process.

Such arguments are actually fun. We argue but no malice to it.

So do I. He has the intellect, and the musical and athletic ability. But I still worry about some of what he hears.

@jstory07 I've actually told him that a few times: "Younger kids believe what their grown-ups tell them. Soon you will be old enough to do research (he and I have done research together) on your own and form your own opinions."

I am glad you had a long talk. This boy needs to talk with real people more often, so that he can learn to use his brain and not to believe everything and only what his mother tells him.

@TheHorse He will think to what you discussed, growing up he will be more critical and I am sure he will take his decision thinking with his own brain.

I agree. And he IS a good critical thinker. When he's allowed to be. Hopefully that will serve him well later in life.

I was obsessed with Lost In Space, too. Mostly with Penny. Judy was obsession-worthy, too.

@TheHorse That's Penny (Angela Cartwright). Judy (Marta Kristen) also had a part in a classic movie, Beach Blanket Bingo.

How old is the boy now? I'm surprised that he isn't ashamed of having a hair style like a girl.

@TheHorse What an absurd comment. "the late '60s and early '70s" my foot! Half a century has passed since then if you haven't noticed. I don't see any hippies among the young generation.

He will be 13 in October. Did you sleep through the entire hippy movement of the late '60s and early '70s? But I don't know whether his hair is his mom's decision or his. I think he's a handsome kid. Heck, he could be my son for real!

When you come up with posts so touching it becomes difficult to tease you...do you realize that? It is all so mushy mushy stuff... never mind, I think Horse Jr. is a genius if he disagrees with you. Time you realized that.
