I'm off to work with the kidlets today.

Today should be an interesting day. I will be working for eight hours at the "old" Martinez preschool that shut down about a year ago. I'll be working with toddlers, but some of my toddler friends from last year will be in the adjacent 3- 4-year-old classroom next door. The two playgrounds are right next to each other. I'm wondering if the former twos, now three, will recognize me and give me Big Hugs. I'm also wondering if I'll recognize all of them and remember their names. Any bets? Older kids recognize you after a year, but I'm not sure about the very younguns.

@vandana7 — he is kinda nice looking in those photos on his You Tube stuff....but we can’t say that because his ego will inflate, and he’s enough of a pain as is.

Ego? I coulda been a contender. But I'm just a bum. (misquoted from "On the Waterfront," a classic movie.)

Will anyone be wearing masks? That'll make it difficult to recognise everyone.

I don't think the kids will be. I'll provide a report this afternoon. I will be, though.

@TheHorse I remember that I did not recognize the siblings of my mother when I was very young. They all lived in another city and we only met a few times a year. I started to remember and recognize them when I was a little older, I could not say which age. Of course I hugged them just because my parents told me "look this is uncle x, you surely remember him"... well no, but if they said so.

Most did. I admit it. It was fun to hear their little voices say "Hi Mr. Horse!"

No. Build one sand tunnel or stacky tower with a kid while singing the ABC song together and you're BFF.

It was really fun. About six kids from the big kid (age three) room saw me and ran over to talk to me. They even remembered my name.

No bets but I'm thinking you'll be recognised. I guess it depends on how much contact the child had with you previously.

Exactly. The one with whom I worked for a whole year (the are now "Seniors" at three) rushed to the fence and said "Hi, Mr. Horse! I missed you!" We sat by the fence and talked about the "old days" as I watched the younguns. I was nice and even let them pet a worm from our compost pile. We named it "Mr. Nice Worm."

It was a good day. Not a many hug as I would like, due to Covid. But plenty of delightful conversations. And we did recognize each other.

Yep. It was fun. Four of my 2-year-olds are now three and rushed to the fence when they saw me. We spent a lot of time talking through the fence today as I watched only three younger charges. I even let them pet one of the worms from our compost bin, which was a thrill for them. They did remember my name.

Yes, younger ones forget. But right now it is not the time for physical hugs. Take care...be safe, keep them safe...

I would think they might remember but I don't really know. I'm still working on my grandson is a year remembering who I am but I didn't start spending time with him until he was over six months and my shifts at work are when my daughter has off and vice versa. He knows the babysitters better than me at present. Hopefully that will change as he gets older.

@TheHorse I have no idea on how kids remember or do not. I do know that a dog that I was very friendly with where I used to live saw me across the street after we moved and remembered me and barked hello to me. I was very happy that she remembered me. I hope they do remember you. That is nice that they reopened again.
