How Do You Deal With Telemarketers?

When telemarketers call, I most times hear them out and see what they have to say. I think that it may be something I need or could use. Most times it's something about a mortgage or home improvement. Or a scam of some sort. How do you respond to telemarketers? Are you polite or not so polite?!

@db20747 I usually try to engage them in casual chit chat about my explosive diahorrhea but today I tried a new tactic - singing. I sang Humpty Dumpy and that was quite an effective deterrent.

That's one sure way to get them off the phone!

You mean they didn't sing "had a great fall" in response to your "Humpty Dumpy" intro?

You actually have me wanting to take a job as a live SPAM caller. Some of my prepared responses: "I just tuck them in and hope there's no more bleeding." "I just lost someone too. You're making me cry." "and on that farm he had a COW!" "Oh, I just try to have a favorite fantasy when that happens. Sometimes 'it' rises to the occasion."

I am never impolite to a real person. They are working for $8.00/hour (or whatever) at a pathetic job, trying to get by. But when it's a bot (which it usually is these days), I tell them about my (imaginary) hemorrhoids to see if the bot says "Sorry to hear that" before going on with the pitch.

@db20747 They're ALL there to rip you off. But I feel sorry for humans who are subjected to this humiliating job. I do not feel sorry for bots, and enjoy testing their algorithms.

This is a good way to play games with them to see if they are real or just out to rip you off

I`m polite but straight forward. Telling them not to waste their time because I`m not interested at all

Telemarkerts are nothing but robots who scam you. Some are obvious, others use information that's true, but then ask you for more money, up front, for something you can get done cheeper and locally. I tend to ignore them. In fact, known telemarketers get blocked. If they offer me an option to opt-out, I'll do that. Otherwise, I'll hang up on the call and block the number manually.

As long as they are not scamming I try to be as polite as I possibly can especially if they are also polite and well mannered but yes they could be quite annoying but I just put in my mind that they are somebody's son, daughter, people with families just trying to make a living in these hard times. I cut the conversation politely if I don't need whatever they are trying to sell.

I solve that problem by not answering my phone. If I don't recognize the number I let it go to voicemail.

I try to be polite. But as usual they refuse to listen to what I said. Then I just put the phone aside. They can talk to the air as they're already doing that to me.

This is a good method. Then they'll realize they did all that talking for nothing. And then I'd say, what did you say again! And do this three times!!
