A feel-good story from the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida is the hatching of two galah chicks that are being hand raised. They hatched from their eggs in March. The parents have unfortunately been unsuccessful in raising their chicks so these were placed into an incubator. The galah is a member of the cockatoo family and originates from Australia. These birds are known for their pink feathers. The galah chicks are being specially fed with a specialized parrot formula nine times a day, Once a few weeks have passed the two chicks will be integrated into the galah flock at the zoo. Yes, when I saw the word, "Melbourne", I was thinking Melbourne, Australia. These galahs, are actually in pest proportions here at the moment, in Australia, and great flocks of them fill the skies. The flocks are very large, and very noisy. It is good that they could breed them outside of Australia, like that.

@RasmaSandra Yes, some are pink, but there are white ones too, and even yellow ones, as well.

A place named Melbourne in Florida ! Wow ! But wait - have I heard its name before. This is so so special effort for these baby birds. Sometimes I feel so happy to see such conservation efforts for some of the animals. It makes one feel so happy.

That is a feel good story and we don't hear about very many these days. Hope those little galah chicks do well and can join the rest of the flock at the zoo.

Interesting bird! When I first heard galah, I remember our galah, which actually a long pole use to pick fruit from the tree. Clearly they're not the same thing.

Sweet story. Zoos are so helpful with animals. The Bronx Zoo has a network for rehabilitation and care.
