Guava for breakfast.

In our continuing saga of being food deprived because the bank is still closed, I rely on my Aratelis (Jamaican Berry) for fruits each morning. But today is special because I discovered my guava ripe for eating. A lovely day. Our God provides.

Guava has just the right sweetness. It's our Vitamin C. Good also for cooking 'sinigang' or broth. You'll surely love the taste. Avocadoes are best. Fleshy and tasty. Sometimes, I put milk and refrigerate the avocadoes and have it later for snack. Yum.

I seldom eat guava because there are lots of seeds inside. I don't get used to it.

Been awhile since I had guava. I prefer it unripe, a bit green and crunchy.

@eileenleyva not sure what sort of guava we had before but I'm guessing it is the Philippine guava.

What I have is the common Philippine guava we find in every yard in the rural areas. I prefer the softer and sweeter Chinese guava. You must be referring to the huge apple guavas that needs to be sliced first before eating. That one is really good and crunchy.

Bank is closed? You mean for cash withdrawals? But don't you have Online grocery system there?

Yes, for cash withdrawals. Foreign currency. Our ATM for Philippine pesos are down to minimum limit. Nope, no online grocery system. But we could pay G-cash and cards.

@eileenleyva what about e-wallet and cards? Usually bank services don't stop during lockdown as they're also essential. Only over the counter services are limited.

Lockdown for two weeks. Hopefully, the bank opens tomorrow. Our metropolis is in a severely dire CoViD-19 situation.

Fruit-bearing trees are always dependable. All the fruits that are in season now could actually feed all eight billion people around the world. Several mango trees on my street alone and the fruits are wasted.

There are actually an abundance of fruits enough for all the citizens of the world. Even if one eats just one fruit a day, no one will get hungry. Guava has a unique tropical taste. A little less sweet than an apple or a pear.

Guava fruit drink is really refreshing. I have not had the pleasure of enjoying guava pastries yet. I don't think our bakeshops carry the product.

Strange dip for a guava but each to his own taste. I used to like green mango with shrimp paste or bagoong. But some of my classmates like the vinegar with salt concoction like yours.

Indian guava is a little reddish in the inside. Bigger than our local Philippine guava, I suppose the Indian guava is yummier. Is the Rs 20 expensive?

I often eat guavas especially during afternoon after school at our previous hometown and I often get constipation too. We have plenty of guava trees back there and fruiting nonstop.

Gosh, how many guavas did you eat at a time that rendered you constipated? Really funny. But I like the scenario you described. It's the simple hometown life we all love. The fruit bearing trees are all around and all we have to do is pick and eat.

@ZedSmart That's the kind of life I like. I love the scenic provincial life. I like climbing trees, sitting on bamboo benches, drinking coconut juice, watching a carabao pull a paragas, use a nipa hat beside the nipa hut, etcetera. I also love watching young people - suyuan sa tubigan. I'd stay on that guava tree and eat guavas, and if I spot someone courting his lady love, I'd play cupid and throw a guava. Ha ha

@eileenleyva I can't remember but two is not enough as I stay up in the tree until the dark set in. I will always try to spot ripe fruit which I did not fail. I miss the life there. Everything is so simple but there are abundance of food that you do not need to buy. City life has price in everything.

You eat "aratellis"? In our home town the fruits of the "aratellis" just fall on the ground and gets stepped on and crushed because nobody likes to eat it. But on the other hand ... thank God for God's free gift of ripe guavas to His beloved

Yup. I love aratelis. In fact, I replanted my tree from a ficus tendered by the birds just a couple of years ago. The maiden harvest last year was a glorious therapeutic activity that got me through the early stages of the pandemic. Recent study by a high school student from the Visayas showed how aratelis is good for diabetics.
