Monthly cable bill too high

Back when I lived with my parents and we moved into a new house they bought I opened a Time Warner cable account on my name. It was triple play—TV, Internet, and landline phone bundle. Started out at a discount and then price went up. I remember we also made a change some time later and got a slight reduction in price but it went up again. The monthly bill is now about $235, which is crazy.
My mom doesn’t want to pay so much every month. Since my name is on the account she cannot do anything with the account. She called and they said only the account holder can make any account changes. I wonder if I call them and tell them that I want my mom to be allowed to make changes to the account if they can do that.
I am not sure what to do here...
Time Warner is now Spectrum but this account still has Time Warner services from what I’ve been told some time ago. Can they switch me over to Spectrum services and will that do anything? Is there anyway they can reduce the bill on my current account? Is it best to close the account and have my mom open a new one? Will that lower her monthly bill, at least temporarily?

You can add Mom as an authorized user, yes, and you can definitely find a cheaper plan..that is outrageous. I would call and tell them they simply must find a cheaper plan for you. Good luck.

@RebeccasFarm I hate that they give you promotional pricing and then it gradually increases and then becomes really high.

I was able to add her as an authorized user. She can supposedly make changes now. But she told me she wants to cancel this account and open a new one under her name so she can get promotional pricing. She is not allowed to cancel the account as only the account holder can do that.

To answer your questions...I'm pretty sure you can tell them to allow your mom to talk to them about your account. We just had an increase to $238 and only got a reduction when we dropped a channel and they took international calling off of our bill (which we never wanted). Yes, if you mom opens up a new one she can get the current promotions for about a year...then the costs will start going up again. Our current bill is $228 with the "reductions". What a joke.

She told me she wants to close the account and open one under her name to get the new customer discount. Issue is she works from home and needs Internet access to do that. If I close the account and she opens a new one it has to be done quick or she won’t be able to work. Wonder how long that will take. I told her maybe I can just migrate to Spectrum services as hers are still Time Warner ones that no longer exist. Maybe that would lower the bill. She said she doesn’t wanna do that as she believes it won’t lower the bill by much.

$228 is ridiculous. If you guys have a cell phone there really isn’t a need for a landline. I bet if you get rid of that it will it lower the bill but probably not by much.
My mom wants to get rid of her landline since they have cell phones. And her home phones no longer work properly. She has to buy new ones to use them.

@lovebuglena We just bought a new phone system. We like having the landline and barely EVER use our cell phones. We just have basic flip phones.

When Spectrum took over and bought comcast and Time Warrner, everything became spectrum. No, it won't reduce her bill. The only way she will see a reduced bill is if you change plans or cut one of the services. And, yes, you can call the company and add your mother to make the changes you want. In the day of cell phones, most people really don't need cable, anyway.

I would think that if my mom opens an account on her name that she would get promotional pricing as a new customer...

Yes, you can add your mother as an authorized user. And, the rest, you will have to take up with Spectrum.

@lovebuglena Yeah. There are sometimes levels of authorized user. It depends on the companies. I know that the TV/Internet/Phone providers I worked for allowed authorized users to cancel. But, your mother should still be able to open a new account in her name. They would just cancel yours.

@Chellezhere Would I need to cancel mine first before she opens one under her name?
