Learning New Things

I have had this car for almost 7 years now, but never bother tried to figure out how to turn on the windshield washer fluid until yesterday . A real achievement.
Not only that, I also tried to open the hood of the car and checked the oil from pulling out the dipstick the first time ever in my life (from watching YouTube). So cool to be able to do those tasks.
---
Have you done anything the first time ever in your life recently? (I should record those achievements in my diary! I still remember the first time I managed to check the tyre pressure by myself some years ago.)

wow, didn't know that we could change the push button of a lawn mower. When I changed the lint filter for my 12 years old washing machine, I was very proud too. I bought them (2) cheaply from Ebay (a few dollars per). Ordering them from specialists, it would have cost me $80 per. (Wish I have your skill re: lawn mower.)

I wish I knew someone like that so I could check my cars engine but not many mechanics on the newer cars these days .... I know a lot of mechanics for the classics though which doesn't help me due to the computers the newer cars have.

Cars should be serviced routinely I was told, I hardly use mine so didn't service it at all the last two years. But I keep worrying about it. Thought I should at least find out about the oil quality and the levels of this and that in that car before I take it to the specialist.

I cannot remember a thing about that. I am not really that kind of risk taker

@YrNemo That is right. It is also better to ask the help of someone who knows about it.

I am thinking of having my car serviced soon. But I keep having two minds about it. Everyone (in the family) seems to advise me to check the oil etc myself (I don't use the car often). THAT was why I thought of just checking it at least once to see what is what. (I think I will still having my car serviced, just for some peace of mind)

I am so glad you learned that..I also learned how to repair and service cars on YouTube.
Yes I learned recently about how to make a cake without eggs.

I tried that a few times, using only baking soda. The cakes were more spongy (just what I wanted).

I helped a young relative to log in to Zoom (she needed that during remote learning from Covid-19 time), but I have no clue myself how to use it. (She later became an expert, and ended up trying to instruct me and giving me tips, but I kept forgetting everything she said.)

@YrNemo Well, somebody has to do all the work... I know I don't want to do it, either.

wow, that was so cool of you . It took me a whole week waiting for my solar lights to turn on (I was testing to see if they worked or not before really using them.) By the 8th day, I called my older sister and asked her why mine didn't work (she had been crazy about solar lights 2 decades ago.). She advised me to pull the piece of paper or whatever it was from the battery area out. I did (after argued with her that there was NO SUCH THING) and had such a good laugh at my stupidity. (She confessed that it happened to her in the beginning too!)

you must be the lady who wrote a post ages ago, showed us how easy it was to check the car etc? (I thought of that post often.)

I still don't really know how to use my Iphone. A number of times I saw some missed calls and wanted to check the numbers (at midnight), and ended up calling some number unintentionally. I was so scared (had to turn off the phone completely because I didn't - still don't - know how to hang up) .

I was showned how to do that task by a family friend (and it seemed easy then). Yet when I was there alone the second time around, I forgot completely how the instruction was. Lucky that a young guy was there doing his tyres, and nice enough to show me again how to do it. (I lost one cap and had to crawl around searching for it for a while... )
