Late Bloomer

Spring has been pretty warm here in Southern California. The cherry trees around the area have been blooming from a long time ago . . . all except ours . There had been dead areas at the top of our tree for a long time. The birds loved to perch on it. But we HAD to chop them off during winter once and for all . . . the weight of the dead branches was about to split the tree trunk. And since then we weren't sure if maybe we killed the tree. While blooms have been blooming everywhere else, there seemed to be nothing happening on our tree until about a week ago. The brown buds turned green - and finally now the flowers are popping out ! How is Springtime going where you live? Is it blossoming or are some things coming in a bit late like ours?

Too bad about your cherry trees. Many of ours has slowed down due to the few nights of freezing temperatures we had recently. But I see new buds all over the yard. Hoping for the best.

It's just one cherry tree . . . we don't have a huge yard . We are lucky this one is budding now . . . there were some very cold nights here (not freezing, but cold in our standards) that we thought maybe the roots got affected. It's exciting to see the new buds do their thing right now!!

It must have been exciting seeing those blooms. Spring is fighting hard to arrive here but today it was downright cold and I had to put the heat on to get the chill out of the house.

Here, it sort of feels like late spring or early summer already. Now I am wishing for the colder times to come back . I hope some consistent warmth goes out your way soon !

This has been a weird year, the Chinaberry trees produced leaves before blossoms this year, usually it's the other way round. But mostly it's dry as a bone here. I had hoped we might get some rain but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon. Hey, did your sister get a puppy for the kids?

Very weird! Yah, I thought blossoms came first . . . or at least that's the cherry blossom does too. I think this up and down weather is confusing Mother Nature too! We have cooler days this week, but no rain in sight. Central/Northern CA gets the rain, but we don't. I hope we get that rain soon too. Looks like we are already getting those fires (we are not in the line of wild fires, but still). Nope, not yet. I will write to ya about that soon .

Now the others have no more flower and you have. We had a very warm month of March, everything was in bloom and from 5 days we are back to winter. COLD!

I think Nature is trying to make things confusing . Wow, from very warm to cold out there . . . that is unusual, isn't it? We have a cool week (in the mornings anyway) and then up to 90F on Sunday !

@LadyDuck We did not have much rain this winter - and spring has none thus far. But we are often in drought conditions - I am surprised you haven't had much rain this month. We had a lot of wind since winter too - what is that - I don't ever remember having this much wind during these months!! Oh my, that is a big drop in temps !

@much2say It was unusual to have such a warm month of March. April should be a rainy months, we had rain one day, but too much wind, this is really unusual. The temperature dropped to 36 F this morning, at the end of March it was 60 in the morning.

Beautiful flower. Our Spring seems like winter nowadays, freezing cold. Yesterday we had snow showers. I have already some blooming flowers on the balcony though.

@much2say Trees thrive though. We had parts of our trees cut (and some just cut completely) and they thrive. The stump has grass and little leaves growing from it. Oh and yeah, weather (especially humidity and heat) wreak havoc on plant life.

@nela13 Oh - I know how that goes with the citrus blossoms - we have lemon, tangelo, and orange. When the blossoms get full and it rains a lot or gets windy, they do fall off and end up on the ground.

That's great that your cherry tree finally started to bloom. Better late than never! Here in Florida, everything is blooming now, although we got off to a late start due to an unusually cold winter this year. But I was okay with that, as it delayed the inevitable allergy season that I go through every year! haha

Oh, the allergies - yes! It's interesting you mention that - because usually when the kids go back to school after winter break, my son gets puffy, itchy eyes from pollen. But we were home and walking everyday . . . he was ok and we thought maybe he grew out of it finally. Well it hit him last week . . . argh those seasonal allergies!
