Given that one of my favorite myLotters, @JudyEv , is moving (from her farm, not out of Australia ), we won't have many escapades of kangaroos from her much longer. So, I decided to go to Australia in Kentucky -- Kentucky Down Under -- for my own escapades. Kentucky Down Under is an "adventure zoo" that also features the Mammoth Onyx Cave tour, together for one price. Given my inability to navigate a lot of steps in and out of a cave, I skipped that portion of the park. There was plenty to see above ground, however. The focus, of course, is animals native to Australia, such as kangaroos, emus, and the woma python (which I put around my neck and took a selfie with....the snake's name is Clyde, if you're interested [it's Clyde if you're not interested! ]). There were also goats, a camel, a cow about to give birth, porcupines, and a wide array of birds. The highlight was going into the kangaroo area to feed and pet the 'roos. (Judy's eyes probably just bugged out of her head when she read that. ) There was a young kangaroo with a joey -- or at least, the tail and a foot -- in her pouch. Other kangaroos of various sizes and colors roamed and slept (mostly the latter) in a large field. So naturally, after griping yesterday about walking too much at Buttermilk Falls, I walked a couple of miles through Kentucky Down Under....AND played with animals when I have an animal dander allergy! I. Had. A. Blast. I know a lot of people aren't keen on zoos, but this was a great place. I've passed that sign I don't know how many times, but today I stopped. And I'm so glad I did.

@m_audrey6788 — don’t encourage him. For that matter, don’t encourage me, either!

Sounds interesting and you are quite adventurous. I hope Clyde is a good boy. How is it feel when the snake was on your neck?

Cool and scaly. It’s hard to describe the feeling of a snake’s skin. They are cold-blooded, and today the snake felt quite cool, almost cold. To the touch. Definitely nowhere near the warmth and softness of the kangaroos.

Did the 'roos and other animals seem happy?

Yes. The kangaroos were quite docile, even the mama with a joey (or one of its feet and the tail) sticking out of the pouch.

How interesting to read this. Love the fact that Clyde's name doesn't change whatever!! I love seeing the does with just legs poking out of the pouch.

This one was just starting. Never would have seen it from a distance. It was fascinating to see up close!

@JudyEv — there was an informational sign that said the does are constantly pregnant, with an embryo in waiting after the first one matures enough to get into the pouch. Unbelievable! Yes, I was in seventh Heaven, getting to pet them and feed them...and those pesky emus....

speaking of the zoo, I feel sorry for the private zoos here because this pandemic, the owners are struggling to maintain them as none visit them..They live merely on donations.:(

That was a nice adventure. Good thing is that you had enjoyed it a lot. I`m scared of snakes even if they don`t harm people.

I love when you can go and feed the animals. I had a bucket list opportunity to feed giraffes a couple of years ago. I was in Heaven. What part of Kentucky is the zoo in? I'm not keen on zoos; but I love to feed and pet animals.

It’s in the cave region, not too far from Mammoth Cave National Park.

Oh my gosh I love that photo. Did not know you had this zoo in your area. I think zoos can be great for animals if they take care of them.
