Day 247 Promise 714 1 John 2:7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning. 8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines. 9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and knows not whither he goes, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. When you love someone, it’s easy to forgive them. When you say one thing and display another, you aren’t true to yourself or those around you. John told the people they needed to embrace the Light of Jesus, and walk after the commandment He gave them to love one another. John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. (KJV) John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. (KJV) As Christians, you know it isn’t easy to love everyone. Yet, God gave Moses a command to give the people that they were to love God and their neighbor. Jesus called this the greatest commandments. Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (KJV) Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the LORD. Matthew 22:34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. 35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. John told the people it wasn’t a new commandment, but one they knew from the beginning because it was part of the Law. When you display love to everyone, even those you don’t get along with, you display God’s love to that person. By displaying God’s love, you will win your brother. Then both of you will walk in the light of God’s love. Let’s pray: Father, help me display God’s light of love in my life by loving everyone. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
