Words Matter

I will forego the discussion of whether or not former President Trump incited a riot in our nation's Capitol, but will only say that based on his words in the speech cited as the incitement, I do not believe that he did. But, if we are to use the same measure to accuse it, then democrat Congresswoman Maxine Waters should be accused of the same, and the expectation of consequences for her words should be as severe as what was implied for Trump. She said, "We've got to stay on the street and we've got to get more active, we've got to get more confrontational. We've got to make sure that they know that we mean business." Her words, using the standards established by the democrat party against Trump, incited a riot in Minnesota which also had Minnesota guardsmen shot at in a drive by shooting. If words matter, as was implied by the news media and democrats, and have severe consequences, and if they are true to what they said and what they believe, then their condemnation of Maxine Waters should be the same, and she should be condemned and held to account to the same degree that they held Trump accountable. On another level Trump was accused of trying to sway the outcome of an election. Waters is essentially trying to sway the outcome of a trial. Election tampering and jury tampering are equally severe things. Even if they are indirect and only suggestions. Justice is something that only applies to democrats when it serves their own purposes. We shall see what happens. But I think I already know my answer.

Majorie Taylor Green is going to bring up charges against her for what she said. Where it goes from there we will see. I am sick of people like Maxine Waters. "Justice is something that only applies to democrats when it serves their own purposes." Truth that many don't want to believe.

I just think at some point I want to see the left "react" to things with the same fervor they do when the right does something, and I want to see the media put as much emphasis and focus on it as they do when the right does it. It is what it is, I guess.

@CarolDM The sad part for me is that the democrat party was not always like this. There used to be sensible people, and even what we called (back in the day) blue dog democrats who were still socially liberal but economically conservative. Kennedy was actually one of those. A great man and a great president. We are definitely in very different times.

Democrats can get away with murder, and that's not even me trying to be funny. It's a whole other world over there on that side. Just so sick of the double standard.

Yes. You have a point there. Words are powerful and we must be very careful of what we say especially when you are on a political position. Every person has different understanding and that makes it difficult for us to say anything

The problem we have in this country is that the left can pretty much say anything they want without any consequence and sometimes no scrutiny by the media, while every word is dissected and disseminated when it comes from the mouth of someone on the right. And it is important to mention that the left is notorious for saying some very nasty things.

@m_audrey6788 Even some of the worst things Trump was ever accused of saying, the left has said some things that would make Trump look like a saint.

In a way he did tell them to come to the Capital but he did not tell them to do cause trouble like they did.

Yeah, he told them to march to the Capitol but he did not tell them to break into it and do what was done.

Right. That's exactly my point. Trump basically said we would stop the steal. In other words, ask questions and force answers to them. He said if you don't fight like hell you're not going to have a country anymore. In other words, stand up for what you believe in, voice your concerns, support your causes, and never let your guard down in the pursuit of that. He also did in fact say to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard, and of course, "We are going to the capitol." I do not hold Trump accountable for the people who acted horribly at the Capitol, I hold the people who decided to storm the capitol and breach the building accountable. BUT, the democrats saw fit to blame the president. At the same time I do not believe Maxine Waters incited anything either. BUT, her words were not all that much different, and whether or not the people in Minnesota were responsible, it is the standard set by the democrats that I have issue with. If Trump's words incited a riot in their minds and he was impeached for it, why would they not also hold Maxine Waters to their same standard of judgement and ridicule and oust her from the Congress? That's really what I am trying to suggest here. I know you are not disagreeing. I just felt it important to expand on my thoughts a bit and add a little more perspective which was not really easily done in the original text of the post since longer posts tend to lose people.

Seeing as she is not Trump and a democrat she won't get the same treatment as Trump got when he was accused of inciting an insurrection. I don't know if it's just this particular picture but this woman looks very scary.

I didn't comment on this initially because I hadn't heard her words but now I have several times. She was wrong to say what she did. I mean she didn't hold a rally and then tell people to march on the Capitol but her words certainly were not helpful. I don't support them.

But we also know Trump did not call anyone to the Capitol to storm it and breach it and tear the place apart. In fact, his exact words were, "peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard." How anyone interprets that as a call for what actually happened is beyond me. But that's for another discussion. I'd prefer to stay on topic. The thing for me is I don't think either Maxine Waters nor Donald Trump are responsible for what happened. Yes. Words do matter. But one cannot hold the speaker to account for the decisions others make regarding their speech, nor can or should they be held responsible for the INTERPRETATION one arrives at from it. BUT, the main point here is the standard set by the democrats. IF Trump was guilty, then by their own standard Maxine Waters is guilty, and a call for the censure or other measures against Maxine Waters should be pursued by the democrats with the same fervor they went after Trump. But that's the world we are living in today. I don't think the democrats will do anything other than deflect and deny. Something they always do. So, it will be up to the voters. But unfortunately the voters either don't care, or are in the same denial and allowing the same deflection.

Yup! That dreadful woman, Maxine Waters, does incite violence since TRUMP MAGA 2016 came about, doesn't she?

@porwest There's a reason why her face can be potentially beautiful. But the ugliness is so deep rooted in her heart and soul that it may take a while to achieve her potential. The same with Nancy P.

I got so sick and tired of her shouting "Impeach 45, impeach 45." Never once did anyone, including her, give anyone a real reason to do it. Of course they DID do it. Twice. But both were baseless and molested the whole process of impeachment.

First of all, you have done me a disfavour @porwest I despise that woman--her face, her brainless nutshell. I had to scroll down your featured photo very quickly because I don't want that face looking at my pretty face. But I give that woman credit. She could potentially be very beautiful PERSON if she behaves well and if she behaves kindly to everyone she violently disagrees with -- the beautiful patriotic Republicans.
