Spreading Wings: I Can Fly

One of the oldest chicks decided to take their first solo flight. When I got up this morning they were all chirping and I headed over to feed and water them. Once food is down they all gather around and gobble, gobble, until it is gone. I kept hearing another chirp and looked back in to count the chicks. Only five!
At that time I started following the chirp and found the baby sitting on the window ledge chirping away. I put the chick back in with its sisters and brothers and it was happy.
I've never had one fly out of the bin at only a week and a day or two old! The bin they are in is over 18 inches tall. Go figure!!

@wolfgirl569 I'm using the top turned the opposite way now. That should deter the little troublemaker.

@kareng I just keep baby gates laying over the containers. Works very well. I have a couple of wire grates that I use while I still need light so it dont melt or burn.

Since chickens spend most of their lives on the ground foraging for food, I wonder how they know they can fly when they are chicks? It's not like they look around and see other chickens flying! haha
