A small surprise

Because of the predicted cold weather, I did some outdoor chores.
I brought in one more potted plant. It is pineapple sage that I had kept alive all winter.
My yard is full of wild or naturalized flowers or weeds. Things like red bud, vining vinca, dandelions, purple dead nettle and white and lavender violets.
However, I did not expect this lovely that I found at the base of my birdbath. It is a dwarf iris. Only about six inches tall. Beautiful bronze color.
A long time friend shared many of her special iris with me last summer. This is one she gave me. I did not expect it to bloom this year. I am glad I got to see it, in case the freeze tonight takes it.

It made me smile to see it as I thought it would take at least a year to bloom.

It is very beautiful, I am glad that it has survived and I hope it continues to bloom Can you pot it?

No, it would not do well in a pot. It is in a pretty sheltered spot.

These were part of a group that was gifted to me by a friend last summer. I expected them to need a year to establish themselves before blooming.

A friend gifted it to me last summer. I was surprised it was ready to bloom this year.

It seems fine. The snow all melted off by midday. It is in a rather sheltered spot.

@GardenGerty We've got about a half foot and it's still coming down, but it doesn't seem to be all that cold out so I guess it'll melt, too, if the temp rises to the predicted 4°C.

I love that it is blooming. I used to have some dwarf tulips and daffodils.
