Gardening Tools

It is weird, but I have a 25 years old pruner which cost me only $10 at the time. Since then, I have been given as gifts some expensive ones (about $50) but none survived after being used a few times. But isn't that weird to you the way that no name pruner lasts longer than the brand (& more expensive) ones? Do you have any favorite tool which you are a bit worried that you wouldn't be able to replace it easily? (My current laptop is another one - I bought it when it was on sale.)

When I read that you had a 25 year old pruner I thought you'd hired some young man to prune things for you. (I am thinking he might cost more than $10, though. ) I am sure he'd have a name, even if you didn't call him anything except "honey" or "handsome".

@YrNemo A lot of the time non-branded tools last better than name-brand ones. The non-branded ones are trying to get and keep your business where the branded ones don't think they need to. They believe people will keep buying them on the basis of their brand alone.

@DaddyEvil Didn't think of that, but you are completely right there.

It is odd that that one has survived that long, while all others fall apart! I just can't understand.

I bought my pruner a few months ago but it was not expensive. It has no brand at all.

I bought another cheap one once (a bit similar to the one I have), but the second time I used it, the spring catapulted somewhere, and that was that.

That is the way it usually works with some things. Glad that the rpruner works for you still.

I do not have any garden tools due to no garden. My little chromebook I could not easily replace.

@RebeccasFarm That is the attraction, the price . (How long have you had that one?)

My pruners never last long as I put them in a basket when I'm weeding and then forget they are there and tip them into the compost bin! Done that several times.

I thought I lost my gardening tools a few times now. And me being me, I tipped the giant bin out, to search for my things. (And guess what? I found them somewhere else later!)

Most of my gardening tools are older. I have also used a pruner like you have pictured to trim the goat hooves. It did as good of a job as the actual hoof nippers I bought later

I have begun to wonder if certain item likes us (the users) better, hence stays with us longer.

It's so frustrating how items bought now just don't last long.

My current one is secondhand from the store (as in, someone bought it and returned due to some problem) so I had it marked down in price by almost 50%, yet it has been serving me well for the last 7 yrs (knock on wood).

Sometimes those no-name brands will last compared to the branded ones. I have this desk fan that I bought back in 2012. It lasted until 2019.

Same thing with some cheap brand name laptop I had two decades ago. It was good for about 12 yrs, can you believe it? Then it just slowly (very slowly) breathed its last breath - and that was that!

That rule seems to apply to many things these days, especially appliances. Not many things are made well anymore.

Someone laughed, told me that all the manufacturers who made things that last forever, ended up close down their business (since no one buy new things from them afterwards).
