So the Oscars are done for another year and not as Covid low key as last year, people turning up to a real place in the best dresses and suits and picking up the awards , in most cases without masks. The ceremony was in the new Los Angeles Union train station , all very surreal. the last time I was there it was full of homeless and black people pushing shopping carts full of empty cans and bottles.lol. I guess they were not welcome last night. As expected, a lot of Black and ethnic minority actors, directors and film people were nominated. The mostly Jewish led film industry was kind enough to let them make their movies during the height of the pandemic to show in empty theaters. At leas the cops didn't shoot any of the award winners last night! Nomadland staring serial Oscar chaser Frances Mcdormand won Best Film, as is normal with the Oscar winners, a film no one has seen as released tight up against the nomination deadline to keep momentum and avoid cinema critic for being too dull. When has a decent movie ever won Best Picture anyway? Slumdog Millionaire ( 2008) was the last decent win for me.I thought the #metoo movement in feminist Hollywood would see 'Promising Young Women' win. As I say I haven't seen any of the ten nominations, Anthony Hopkins at 83 won his second Oscar from 8 attempts , playing a person with dementia, taking over playing a Jewish character in the Holocaust for stick on Oscars these days. I thought they might have given a posthumous one for Chadwick Boseman there. Youn Yuh- jung ticked another box as Best Supporting for Minari and Chloe Zhao doubled up for Asain honors for Best Director for Judas and the Black Messiah , from which Brit Daniel Kaluuya won for Best Supporting male. BAME people bagged nine golden statues on a record breaking night for Black and ethnic Oscar winners. And it was always going to award BAME people as Hollywood continues to react to the whole Black Lives Matter movement in America.
