Life is a journey from B (Birth) to D (Death) with C (Choices) in between. How we make the choices is up to us and they have consequences. We have no say in our being born here, where, and who our parents are. Also, death is certain after having been born. However for us, death is the great unknown. When that thought comes to me, I comfort myself some dear ones have predeceased me and they should be alright and may well be waiting to receive me. So, it is nothing to sweat over; meet it head-on and allow others to move on with their lives here till it is their turn. As regards the choices, I think of what my agenda is. I go for long term goals that benefit others too. That way, they rest easy on my conscience. I have made the choices that way all my life once I could decide for myself. Life, Death and Choices are all we have for now. Choices depend on us and that is a great blessing and makes our term here worth the while. It is fair dinkum, we face the consequences of our choices. How do you go about life, thoughts about birth and death, and the choices we have the freedom to make? Image: Choices from free media site Pexels

I take it one day at a time and try to live as if it’s my last day on earth.

I recall Gandhi's words “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” The uncertainty in life should spur us on and not hinder our pursuits.

You are such a thoughtful man Shiva. I know others near you will see and appreciate this even after you are gone, and not too soon for you I pray .. Though it is a bit late in life, I am trying to now save and rectify some bad choices I made but to benefit my own loved one.

Thanks, Ocean Tiara, I think often about what life is and my own role in it. I live with a spirit of inquiry gleaning pearls of wisdom from others. I wanted to have an idea of what mountain I am climbing rather than regret it later I spent all my time going up the wrong one! Maintaining ourselves here, surviving, should not take all our time. Then the choices we make should be sustainable and meaningful. Hereafter is a mystery anyway and that keeps even the most faithful fighting for another day here.

This is a thought-provoking discussion. Certainly our choices decide where we'll end up in life.

Thank you. We have to make some major choices too along our way here and they can prove irreversible too.

That's so beautifully put. Choices...they can be confusing. But yes, if we have groomed our confidence and have better clarity of thoughts, it can be easier to make one. And I love it when you say that you make choices that go easy on your conscience. I could instantly relate and resonate there.

Thanks Arunima for your support. We have been given the blessing for making choices and that I think is the most exciting part of our existence here that keeps us alive every moment. Then we are born with common sense to make wise decisions. I follow a simple maxim when in doubt - do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

@Shiva49 I totally agree with your viewpoint. It's an universal thing that what you give finally comes back to you. I try to take all decisions conscously and even try to live every moment consciously.
