A visit from "Tom"

Yesterday and today our private street had a visit from "Tom"... Not any of the celebrity actors. A male turkey. I came up to him yesterday as he was walking by the fence. I thought he would get scared and run... He just kept on walking. Perhaps he didn't see me. I wonder where he came from. Have you ever had a turkey by your house?

No turkeys here, they don't like deserts.

We have roadrunners here, they chase lizards for food.

Haha. I didn't know a turkey could have a name. Yes we had one visit us last year December at our rural home. But it always chases people

Apparently a male turkey is referred to as “Tom.” This one just walks around. Doesn’t run after or attack anyone.

I wonder where he came from, too. Must not have been far if he's not afraid of people. Stranger things have happened.

@lovebuglena I wouldn't think they would be.

There was one time where I was waiting for a bus and many turkeys started to cross the road. One turkey was pacing back and forth in one of the lanes preventing drivers from going forward.

There is a cemetery nearby. But I've never seen turkeys in a cemetery before.

There are hundreds of wild turkeys all over the place here where I live. I see them every morning foraging for food by the side of the road as I’m driving to work.

@lovebuglena Turkey, deer, raccoons...they are everywhere here in Florida. Even by the beaches.

Wow! I would not think turkeys would be all over FL. I also didn’t think raccoons were very common in parks there but according to videos my nephew posts from where they live in FL there are lots of them in parks, rummaging through trash or just lounging.

Me too! I saw him today as well. Usually I hear the sound and then look to see where he is. Seems to always be near the fence when I look for him. Maybe someone feeds him over there or something.

We have a hospital where I live and for some reason there are a lot of turkeys by it. I wonder why.

I think the turkeys we have here are wild turkeys. At least that what I hear people say.

We used to have a pet turkey and he was really gentle. He never showed the least bit of aggression.

@lovebuglena I should think that would be the case. I forgot they are wild turkeys there. Here, you only see them on farms, etc.

I guess as long as he is not provoked he will not attack.
