No matter my location, Motown sounds great! I’m celebrating Motown all month long (a request from @Dena91 ), first with my ten favorite Motown label hits, then with favorites by Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. Speaking of Gaye, he’s making a guest appearance as writer of today’s great Motown tune.
#8: Beechwood 4-5789 - Marvelettes
Yeah, everyone wants “Please Mr. Postman,” which was their biggest hit. According to Picky Wedia, that was also the first “girl group” #1 and the first #1 pop song by the Motown family of labels.
Sorry, the Marvelettes had more hits than that one (which was later covered by the likes of the Beatles and the Carpenters, showing the wide-ranging appreciation of that song). So I went with this one.
Like so many of the 60s Motown hits, this has a great feel to it, doesn’t it!!!
