A dark and haunting and beautiful song you may never have heard.

I went to college in Iowa and also taught college in Iowa for a few years. One of Iowa's treasures is a folk artist named Greg Brown. Many of us know that we lost American singer/songwriter John Prine to Covid, but Greg Brown (and another favorite of mine James McMurtry) is/are still alive and kicking.
This is one of my favorite Greg Brown Songs. It resonates with me on so many levels. I remember feeling safe in Iowa, a feeling I didn't often have growing up in Chicago. But I also remember the tenuousness of that feeling of safety.
I hope you enjoy the song.

Maybe that feeling is why The Bible says "It is not good to be alone." Because when you're in danger, you can hold on to your lover and feel safe until the danger passes.

@mythociate Me too. That's a benefit of hanging out with musician types and 3-year-olds. Lots of free hugs.

I have heard of Greg Brown, McMurtry too, but never listened to either. I like the song a lot. I am still (and more seriously), trying to learn guitar, doing some online lessons bow for a while.

@JamesHxstatic Ms. Horse chatted with his back up guitar player after a concert here in 2001 or so. I have never spoken with him, though I'd love to talk Iowa with him.

@TheHorse Ahh...Glenlivet! I had a vague memory of Greg Brown hanging out in Oregon. He was around here for a while around 2007. I have an even vaguer memory of running into him somewhere and having a short conversation.

He is a treasure - his stuff was often played at Bill Monroe's old blue-grass festival in Bean Blossom Indiana!!!

@TheHorse that is cool - Monore had a famous festival every year. The little town of Bean Blossom (about 20 miles west of Bloomington) swelled by 10 times!
