White iris from Mary Ann

I have iris blooming both from my daughter and from my friend. There is a white one from each of them, but they have slight differences. From my daughter is an all white one. Even the fuzzy stamens. From Mary Ann the white one has yellow up the ribs of the stamens. Then there is one that looked black before it opened, but it is a really dark plum. It has gotten cold and windy here. I turned the heat back on in the house. That is the blooming report for today.

This is kind of an odd time of year to need heat, but I am using it because I have it.

@GardenGerty I'm glad you do. Yes it's really odd. It has been raining here at night and it keeps going on even now that it is almost morning. That is odd for us too this May

My favourites have always been the pure white ones (perhaps with yellow stamens) and the really dark ones. Irises really are the most stunning flowers. It's just a shame that they only flower for such a short time.

@GardenGerty They really are at their best in a border. I always seem to connect them in my mind with soldiers (or guardsmen, perhaps), on parade ... their uniforms are so bright and they are there just for this special occasion

@owlwings Hmm. Had never viewed them that way. Most places I see them they are in masses. Like maybe all viewing a parade.

I am also sad because they do not really make good cut flowers. They certainly brighten up the outdoors, though.

Have you seen any growing near you? I had friends in San Ysidro that grew and bred iris as a hobby.

@GardenGerty I am glad for you. I love when the sun shines and no more layers and can walk outside freely and enjoy the day with the sun shining down on you.
