Gee, I just heard about a new and disturbing disease

I was just reading an alarming article about a woman who got cancer of the tonsils. I would be thinking well if you just have them removed that is probably the end right? No way, at least not in her case. She had to have radiation for a long period of time. Then her teeth got loose, and she had necrotic tissue from the radition apparently. Plus the cancer kept coming back..just when she thought she would be 5 years cancer free! At least it didn't continue to spread. So, now she is living on the beach with her dogs taking each day as it comes. Cancer of the tonsils..who knew? There is no shortage of what can go wrong with you it seems.

Very sad. Tonsil cancer can develop even in people who’ve had their tonsils removed because a small piece of tonsil tissue may be left behind.

Cancer can develop absolutely anywhere, out of the blue.

I have not heard of cancer of the tonsils, but it makes sense since cancer can go anywhere in our bodies. But it makes me wonder, since they stopped doing tonsilecomies several decades ago, will that be just 1 more test that those still bearing tonsils need to go for? I am glad that when I was a little girl they still did tonsilectomy operations and mine were removed.

My dad has his tonsils removed as a kid, but neither my mother sister or I have. Sis used to get tonsilitis alot as a kid, and the doctor said if she has it one more time, she will need to have her tonsils removed, but she did not.

@snowy22315 Back in the late '60's and early '70's it was the practice that the doctors in our area removed tonsils. It meant a sleep over, usually your first one that you could remember, in a hospital, needles, and lots and lots of ice cream as you recovered.

@Juliaacv I had step throat and tonsillitis regularly. After having my tonsils removed, it's very seldom I get a sore throat any more.

@snowy22315 I knew about cancer of the sinus cavity, it is horrible when people lose their nose to this.

Tonsils and throat cancer are pretty much the same thing. Cancer can pop up anywhere, which makes people nervous.

I wonder if there is pain involved - like with tonsilitis . I have never heard of it, but I suppose cancer can pop up anywhere .
