There is no right or wrong way to handle it

I have it in my mind to drive West on Friday. A person that I've known for longer than I have been married!!!!! is on hospice. I just realized how long I've known this buddy. That sat me on my butt. So I just got a call from her niece. Buddy is super close to heading to that OTHER. I don't know what OTHER is and really won't know until its my turn. Niece of course was crying. Such a brave lady and her trying to hold her baby while it fussed. Niece wanted me to know that buddy would not be able to talk with me. She does not look magazine worthy. That's my sentence there. So I listened. I cried with the niece. I said that others, like the niece, buddy's sister, they'd need me too. And thank you for thinking of me, knowing that it will take some good effort for me to drive that long distance. All those that have loved ones close enough to hug, go for it. Hug and hassle, giggle over dumb stuff. Enjoy your time together.

@JamesHxstatic I have thought long and hard about how long the trip is and its hazards.

@JamesHxstatic I love the Cascade mountains. I just don't bounce the way I used to.

Indeed life is too short. There are a few friends now that I wish I had visited, hugged or even said some words to. Please have a safe journey to see your Buddy .

I hope she will at least be aware of you and able to smile with you. I also pray she will have a peaceful passing.

Oh that morphine. I remember my dad refusing morphine even though he was in pain from stage 4 hodgkins disease, he didn't want to lose his mind and he didn't.

Thanks @rebelann From what I heard today I don't think she'll know I am there. Good old morphine. But I need to make the trip. Her sister and family will be there and they're going to need some appreciation.

Life is short, and you never know until it's gone. After recently losing my mother-in-law, my husband and I realize how short life is. After losing his father (my father-in-law) we'd made an effort to visit his mom once a year (except last year). So if anyone knows that, it's us.

I think that because she cannot talk and is so close to the end of his life here I would just try to remember all the good times and pray for his passage to the other side. It is so hard to lose someone you had been close to for so many years.

Have a safe trip. Hubs and I are at the ages when I think about one of us passing a lot. I am savoring every minute with him. Savor every minute with your friend, even if she doesn't know you.
