Are liquor shops that much essential to be reopened?

During this pandemic when we have seen lots of deaths and people are being affected at very high rate and lockdown has been imposed in many states in India, in such situation is it essential to reopen the liquor shops for limited time. Just now read a news that shops are allowed to open UP for the limited time. I don't think so because we people are not that much literate to follow the guidelines . I know people will break the rule of maintaining the social distancing. Is it not strange that government is playing with the lives of people. I know closing of it is affecting the economy. But is economy important than the lives of people. Picture taken from pixabay

That was the biggest complaint here too when the lockdown ended and businesses started opening. One of the first to open was the liquor stores and bars.

These governments do think that economy is equally or more important than lives of the people. All the trouble we are facing here in Goa at the moment is due to opening of our beaches to the tourists. Finding no other suitable holiday destination, the tourists from all over the country and even from abroad flocked here with scant respect to social distancing norms. The result is people are dying in the hospital for lack of oxygen and other medical facilities.

Perhaps the stores should just have online service and people who want to drink should just store some and drink at home.

You are right. People do not follow the guidelines, reopening is a mistake, people will go outside and the virus will spread even more.

@marlina The United States are opening everything and masks will no more be mandatory. I expect a surge of cases even there... if they will tell us!

You have a point there. It might give some more problems if people don`t handle it right. Not unless they drink inside their own homes

How is that essential? People want to be drunk more than food or making money?

I wouldn't consider it to be essential. They may be thinking people need a way to drown their sorrows if their loved ones are dying but that opens a whole new can of worms.

Life is more important than everything, they should remain closed, that's all

Goes to show how strong these companies can lobby for their own interests.
