Game-changing housing call

A few months ago, I've posted that I received two calls from my local housing authority for looking for a new affordable appointment. But it wasn't for the right apartment. Well, this morning, I've receive the call from a new agent who said that apartment had an opening--the one my brother's been keen on since last year--and wanted me to know if I can schedule a viewing to look. That's all and nothing more. My brother texted me and ask me on my thoughts--I said it couldn't hurt to have a peak before I decide on anything. The housing agent said that if I said yes or no, I'll still remain on the list. So I'll be checking it out on Monday morning and then let my brother know. But my brother have forgotten that it's for senior housing--and I'm not a senior citizen. That's one big con there: I don't fit the age requirement for the listing. We'll get it out of the system and maybe remove my name off the list for senior housing next week. I'll keep an open mind, but nothing will change my mind on it, though it'll be available in June. I still have my eye on the dream apartment I saw last year before I was kicked out. I kept my eye on the website and planned to go on the waiting list in 12 days, a week before my lease renewal is up. Earlier this month, I checked the website and saw it's been updated and had no mention of a waiting list, just to easy apply via the site. I was literally dying inside since I had to wait until early June. Then the website was down for some reason. According to a April Facebook post on their FB page, they had one-bedroom apartment available for early to mid-June--my sweet spot. And that FB page was later down too. Today I did a Google search and found out it's now under new management and had the same mention of applying to it. I've contacted the manager via email (the email didn't work due to the website change) and then contacted her via the listing via Rent.com and then contacted them via the form on the new site to ask for availability and to schedule a tour. So far no word yet. But I plan to try to schedule a tour for next week if I can't get one tomorrow. I have to wait 3 weeks from today before I can make my move to move out this summer. Since this game-changing housing call happened, I'm going to try to sway my brother on Monday that his pick is so wrong for me with a list of more cons than pros. And that dream apartment is so right for me into my favor with more pros than cons. I'll let you know what happens on Monday afternoon. Sorry so long for this post. Please pray, cross your fingers and toes, and think good thoughts for me.

I think your brother has your best interest at heart, but you need to do what feels right for you. If you've found a better place, work hard to get into it.

I know he does. But I just don't picture myself in a senior housing apartment. It doesn't feel right to me.

@KristenH Agreed. If you don't feel right about it, simply tell him so. While he is looking out for you, at the end of the day, it's your decision where you live. Not his.

@kaylachan True. And it turns out that the apartment I hope to move in had raised its rent by $300. I can't afford it unless I land that voucher. So it's on the backburner for now.

That would be fantastic if you got your dream apartment. Fingers crossed, you are just gonna have to persuade your brother when the time comes.

Yeah. Monday I have to talk to him after I see the apartment for myself. I rather have the voucher than this apartment.

You're the one who has to live there so you go for what feels best for you.
