The last hurrah - a wake for our house

We have lived in this house 19 years and have done a lot of entertaining over the years. Consequently, we seem to have accumulated a LOT of bottles of various liqueurs, spirits, wines, etc. Many of the bottles of port and spirits were gifts to Vince for significant birthdays or just as thank yous. Some will just be thrown out I guess if it has deteriorated. Vin’s sister and her husband have always enjoyed the solitude here as has one niece and together they suggested they should come for a ‘wake’. We thought it was a good idea and maybe we’d be able to clean up some of the part-bottles that are clogging up the bar cupboards. Since then, another couple and a good friend have decided to join us as well. There are no spare beds in the house now so one couple brought their own caravan, one couple is in ours, one is bringing a camp bed and one will sleep on the lounge. We had six for dinner last night and there will be eight tonight. As you can see, there is enough alcohol for all. NB: A 'wake' is a celebration of someone's life after their death

We also have many liquors. We cleaned the liquors cabinet a few days ago placing all the bottles on the table, I did not realize they are so many... of course all this is for our guests.

@JudyEv We had some bottles that I bought because I know that my niece or her boyfriend liked, but we did not like. It is a long time they do not come because of Covid, I imagine I will throw them.

@LadyDuck A few of the port bottles were especially labelled for special occasions but have been sitting at the back of the cupboard. They have now been thrown out.

I believe you when you say it's all for your guests! Some of our bottles had been in the cupboard too long so we just threw them out.

Every bit we get rid of now is less that we'll have to take with us.

@JimBo452020 I fully agree Bombay Sapphire is over rated, just become some people buy it to show that they are connoisseurs. To prepare a good Martini, my favorite remains Tanqueray.

We all slept in a bit later than usual but that was the only ill-effect felt by anyone and really that was a good thing as none of us sleep well nowadays.

What a great send off for all of the wonderful times that you had here at this home. When we moved, cleaning out the bar was a big job, we also had bottles upon bottles upon bottles, many of which had not been opened as of yet. We packed several liquor store boxes full of them. Cheers!

And good health to you too. We won't have a bar at the next house so the remaining bottles will have to go in a cupboard somewhere.
