Unnecessary content in recipe posts

If I am looking up a certain recipe online, all I care about are the list of ingredients and their proportions, the cooking time (and temp, if oven), step-by-step instructions, and maybe the amount of servings. Sometimes I may look at the nutrition facts but that is not of much importance to me. I find it frustrating when I have to scroll through a whole lot of unnecessary content just to get to the recipe, especially if I do not plan on using the recipe but just need the cooking time and temp. I wonder why the blogger or whoever published the content chose to include it. Is that done for search engines and search engine ranking? Or is there another reason?

Alot of people feel that way, that is why most recipes like that have a jump to recipe section. That way you don't have to read all the filler content.

I don't remember seeing something like this. This would be be a good idea.

@lovebuglena It's usually at the top before the article starts, often in small text.

I know I'd like to jump right to the recipe too in most cases. I can skim through the added wording pretty quickly . . . sometimes I am interested, other times eh. If I had any questions about a technique or new ingredient, I do appreciate the extra wording.

If it is a very lengthy recipe post there should be a link at the top of the post somewhere to jump straight to the recipe. Apparently, there is such a thing but I do not remember stumbling across something like that.

@lovebuglena Really? I didn't know about that either. I have found some recipes that were super detailed along with step by step photos . . . but at that point it might as well have been a video because it was so long.

@much2say Someone in this discussion mentioned it. I've noticed some instructions are way too wordy and long. I don't like that. Sometimes makes things more confusing.

I agree with you. Sometimes they add up so many information

Yesterday I needed to double check the cooking time of chicken drumsticks at 400. I found a post and had to scroll for a long time to find that info. Very frustrating.

@RebeccasFarm And then it turned out the time it told me was not the right time.

Maybe because it's a blog, the owner wants to talk about something other than the recipe.

I guess that is a possibility. If a blogger wants to include a lot of info that is not the actual recipe then better to include that info after the recipe, I think.

sometimes bloggers indeed enter a lot of information that is outside and expect others to read their articles longer

I am sure people don't read everything and skip through some stuff.

I just check the ingredients but I´m not annoyed at other explanations. Other people require them.

Mostly for searchability, but to make the blog post more interesting. Trying to draw the reader into a story or what not to get them to want to try the product.

Some people may talk about their trip to some destination and something they tried there and how they are now recreating it at home. That can be a bit interesting actually.

i just scrolled through a similar site yesterday. it had a long intro, tips etc etc, one of the comments/reviews on the blog said "just get to the recipe already"
