Coronavirus Lessened the Crime Rate: Really?!?

In my country, I noticed the crime rate lessened due to this virus. It seems they are scared of being infected. However, the criminals committed crimes because they do not have the means to survive. Most of the locals are struggling because of unemployment. How's your country's status now? Image Credit: i.pinimg.com

Crime is low here, I have heard than in most countries the crime rate decreased... it is because people stay at home, they cannot burglar empty apartment and no people were in the streets to be robbed.

@MALUSE You can guess that in Italy they will and they will surely obtain it.

@MALUSE This is exactly what could happen in Italy. The Government is now giving a "basic income" to all Italian citizens who have a very low income, no job and do not own a house. They are discovering that half of the people who are cashing this "reddito di cittadinanza" are criminals and illegal immigrants. Italy will never change.

@MALUSE I am surprised, I cannot imagine how well Italy would work if there were more honest people in Italy.

I haven't paid attention to the crime rate. I'm glad it went down during the pandemic.

@Shavkat I think you are right. I am not scared going out at night compared to when I was in Pinas.

It's true crimes has reduced but many innocent citizens are suffering because of unemployment. Only God knows when this will end.

I guess they will be decreased because there are fewer people outside and if they would be out they will be easily noticed by authorities. I do not think it is because they are really afraid to be infected but they are more exposed when they go out in the evening and with the lockdowns, many people are at home so there is less likely that they can easily rob a house because there is always people around the house.

@Shavkat Yes but I do not think hardened criminals will find ways for sure.

I agree. During the daytime, policemen are spread out in the public. These criminals will not attempt to commit any criminal acts.

I think it's the contrary. Some people get laid off and become desperate.

If this desperation goes to their minds, they might take the risk of committing crimes.

If we are thinking about the bright side, lockdown is an effective way to control crime in a particular place.

I don't think the AMOUNT of crime has changed. Just the TYPES of crimes. For example, with all of this free money floating around out there, many people have been engaging in fraud and price gouging. Maybe violent crime is less. But not crime overall.

At some point, they are more aggressive in committing crimes online. A typical example is the scammers
