Today is the day in the United States when we honor those who have given their lives so that we can enough the freedoms that we have. Not a perfect country but one we love. I don't have any ancestors who gave their lives for the United States. I do have relatives on my English side who died in World War I from England and my mother's first cousin went down near Greenland during World War II with the Canadian navy.
It is a somber day but many people have a picnic or a cookout. We are not doing either, I have lots of wrting to do. I made boiled eggs for breakfast and we slept in late.
I am not sure I will make payout this month, I am 27 cents short lol I really have been so busy I haven't spent as much time as usual on mylot.
I hope everyone is enjoying this Monday, I am off to do some reading to see what you have all been up to.

We appreciate and respect your relatives that gave their lives defending their countries. Hope you get your writing done. Hope you make payout. This has been a decent month for me here on MyLot. Have a good Monday and a great week.

@rebelann I wasn’t assuming you were talking about Arlington but that is my experience that and Verdun which was so touching.

Yes I can imagine that as well. Arlington national cemetery is one of my favorite places to visit, it is so poignant and the tomb of the unknown always touches my heart

I always had the impression that it should be a somber day, but all I ever read is about picnics and family gatherings and fun. I am glad that you set the record straight.
Mondays are my day off, I was up early today so I logged in and worked a few hours as we are so busy. Now I will enjoy and relax the rest of my day today.

I think sometimes people forget the real purpose and just think about the picnic but we have lots of parades too even in the rain.

I think that is what is missing from many celebrations that happen on Memorial day.
