Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated following the Civil War and became a federal holiday in 1971.
We should never forget those who gave their all. And never came home.
Sharing a magnolia bloom in my yard. Actually caught my neighbor's flag in his yard as well in the photo.

Many people, not knowing about the Day knowing only that it is called a holiday wish others a "Happy Memorial Day!" I used to explain it to them why it is not really a 'happy' day but I gave up.

Lovely bloom there Carol and quite fitting.
I have my flag up all year round.
Yes RIP to all who gave their lives. And those who survived as well.

What a lovely photo! I dated a young man, Terry V. He wasn't my boyfriend. He went into the Air Force after high school and was killed in Viet Nam.

@CarolDM I wasn't a close friend with Terry, but he was a nice 18 year old boy.

Great photo. When you take a moment to think how many gave their lives, it's quite overwhelming.
