Good Moms

There was a time when I thought I needed to be the perfect mother. I wore myself out working and being what I thought was a good mom. Despite my work hours and not always being at their dance lessons, cheerleading and sports events my girls have grown into wonderful, productive women that I am very proud of. I raised them to take responsibility for their own actions, do the best they can in what they are doing, and take other people's feelings into consideration. I am happy to say that my girls are trying to instill these same things in their own children. I am such a lucky mom to have such wonderful children. I used this cross stitch that I did a couple of months ago on this post. You don't have to be a perfect mother, you just have to listen when your children talk.

Your stitching says it all Wish I had this hanging in my house when my children were growing up. It would have reminded me that I didn't have to be perfect raising 4 kids as a single mom. I'm very proud of my children too. They turned out to be wonderful adults raising good kids

I think that there are things like dust and moping the floor are things that can wait. I could have hung it in my kitchen also when I was raising my girls.

You are a good mom . So nice to read your cross stitch . . . now I can remind myself that being the best parent we can be is not about having the cleanest house in the world .

@HazySue Exactly. I know my own mother spent a lot of time keeping the house perfectly clean. But we spent a lot of time occupying ourselves, not that it was bad, but we didn't do a lot of "together" activities with my mom.

I thought that the cleaning could wait too. They spend such a small part of their life living with you. I just wanted them to know they are loved.

That is a beautiful handicraft. Yes, listening to our children when they talk to us is a must.

I think that it is so important to listen, really listen to your children. They may be trying to tell you something in a round about way.

Most of their lives I raised them alone. I think they have turned out to be the adults I dreamed of. Thanks.

I tried to make them feel how important they were to me while teaching them to be independent.

That's so true. It may be hard being everything to everyone but there does come a time when you can sit back and relax.

I think parents struggle with wanting to be the "best" when all they need is to listen and love. Children will learn from your example.

I agree. I wanted my girls to be happy in what they were doing while being responsible for their actions and words. I wanted them to feel they could talk to me about anything.

Great cross stitch project. The housework will always be there...your children will not. They move out and onward.

I do wish that my mother was home with me all those years that she worked.

Unfortunately it isn't always possible for a mother to be home. I bet she wishes she could have been home with you.
