Not that it matters at all, but Based on the position of the sun and all of that. You know, the equinoxes and other fancy things, Summer starts June 20 something. That is the true, scientific summer. Meteorological summer. EDIT. . . according to this website this is a wrong statement. What I described is the astrological seasons based on solstices and equinoxes. Meteorological is what we were taught in school. However, we were taught, growing up, in school and traditionally that June, July and August are summer. September, October, November are fall. December, January, and February are Winter, and March, April and May are spring. I remember learning it in school. Summer begins after Memorial Day, Fall commences after Labor Day and ends at Thanksgiving. Confusing as all get out. My weather does not think it is summer. You can bet on that. I was just going to add this as a comment in a discussion but decided, "What the heck, we can discuss it!" Especially since I am on "Summer break".

When I was a kid, to make it simple we had the 4 seasons starting on the 21st (spring March 21s, summer June 21st, autumn October 21st and winter December 21st). I know that it is not exactly correct, but it is from the 20th to the 22nd of the months so not a big difference.

It makes sense to me, and I believe that is how we did it as well.

@GardenGerty It was so easy to remember, now one year it is the 20th another the 22nd... we never know for sure.

@MALUSE NO, it is no more the same, it is not the 21st of the trimester now, summer this year starts the 21st of June, but autumn will be the 22nd of September, not the 21st, winter the 21st of December, but spring 2022 will be March 22nd, so it's no more the fixed day of the 21st of the trimester.

I was taught the same. Everything has changed it seems. I prefer the cool fall and winter temperatures.

@GardenGerty We had close to record heat before that big Memorial weekend cool down, now temps are on their way back up. It is still pretty comfortable though in terms of the humidity for right now anyway.

I don't recall being tought that way about the seasons. I started school in summer ended school in spring. That was that. I'll agree about the weather. Here it doesn't know what it's supposed to be.

@GardenGerty By the time I started school, it was very much summer. The very idea of starting school in Setepember was reserved for television. School started mid August and ended Early-to-mid-June.

Actually due to things that have happened in my life summer is the one that always brings back the most memories for me and then I long for it to end and for autumn to begin,

That's definitely a good way to remember about the different seasons.

That's pretty much how I remember seasons to be back then . . . based on the school calendar basically. But somewhere down the line it got messed up (not in my time, but my kids' time) which throws it all off - for me - as school starts nearly a month before Labor Day now. And with the weather being koo-koo as it is, in CA, the seasons (or non-seasons as they say) are all over the place.

Doing further research, I had to make a correction. What we were taught in school was the meteorological seasons. Yeah, non seasonal California is hard.
