Back in the day, I was a writer. In fact, I can remember as far back as eight years old...writing. Most of my work was done in spiral notebooks. I wrote novels in these things. And some novels required two or three of them. All handwritten. Of course, at some point I had to type stuff up. Back then on an old Smith Corona manual typewriter. I still write. But these days the "methods" are different of course. And I would tell you some of my pen names. But these are something I consider to be "hard, guarded secrets." I have my reasons. None of which will be brought to the fore here. This was me. Probably at about 16 and unfortunately with a cigarette in my hand. It was a different time. It's my "writer's pose," presumably for a cover photo at a time I wanted to be known. I am struck by the fact that I look like I could have gone both ways, and this seems like a cross between Don Johnson and David Bowie. What the hell was I thinking? Did this actually turn out to be a good look? I hardly think so. Probably 1989. But I am not sure. I abashedly share it for your amusement here today as I turn 48 today.
