Never-ending sanctions...

I was picking berries mid-morning yesterday, planned to bring the sweet red noels as snack while driving to the hospital, to fetch my daughter. Then came a text that says the department was given another sanction, all residents must remain within the hospital grounds. That meant packing clothes and undies, a towel for another week, and a rush to the eat-fresh kiosk for a 'take-out' lunch for my daughter. Sometimes, this departmental policy for residents could take a toll on the family. Robs us of precious hours we could be together. My daughter has been on duty for a fortnight now. Then, another week again. But that is the name of the game. Doctors have sworn to perform their duties to the utmost of their abilities. Morbidity, and mortality, must not happen. When it does happen - corresponding sanctions await. I ate the berries with my elder daughter last night while watching 'The Post.' Yum.

Also had those berries in our yard. I used to complain before that I don't see any red fruit only to find out the birds came earlier. Not anymore now there's plenty for the birds to feast. Why wouldn't they allow residents to go out? Due to covid?

Sorry, dear friend, I fell asleep. I couldn't hold my eyes open. Yup yup, the birds come to eat the berries, and the bats, too. Sometimes, on a childish caprice, I would pick and eat the red noels right there and then. To my daughters' dismay. Twice the girls reprimanded the stubborn mother and said viruses are transmitted animals to humans. The silly old mother retaliated, 'I watered the branches first!' The girls shrugged, 'It's your life!' The sanctions were for the morbidity - form of discipline and way of stressing mistakes are not allowed. Im the department, mistake of one is mistake of all.

@eileenleyva Lol funny how the youngs would reprimand the young once. Hehe at the nanay nang aasar. I can relate to that mistake of one mistake of all like in our department if a collector lost a receipt that's a big deal.

@florelway In the home, really, I am the child. I take that 'Mistake of one, mistake of all' seriously. I tell students they can commit all the errors as students because they are allowed to commit mistakes in the process of learning. But once they graduated and have become professionals, there is no room for error any longer. Imagine if an engineer miscalculated the number of pillars in a skyscraper, or microbiologists failed to come with correct vaccine, the repercussion could be colossal.

I remember eating this berry when I was young. I didn't see the tree anymore. Some of the neighbours might have it but I won't be venturing into their yard. Those adventurous days are over now

I really planted the Jamaican Berry in my front yard because I enjoyed picking on the red round fruits as a child. I did learn earlier that what we locally call 'aratelis' is good in controlling blood sugar. Now I am reaping the tiny fruits of my labor.

You are a dedicated mom always there for her daughter. It is indeed very frustrating to hear that they will extend their stay more in the hospital since they are badly needed to attend to the sick. But somehow makes you a proud mom knowing her daughter is doing a very noble job serving the sick and making them well.
