One and Zeros

Staying Rooted but Soaring High

We make a grand entry at the starting block, ready to live a life here. That is our beginning and we can call it as one. We come with innate character, talent, and in pristine condition. There are the few to mold us and also the circumstances. The same environment adds to the diversity of life here. What matters is unity and not uniformity. Unity in diversity is the hallmark of creation and is reflected in nature. Then we add many zeros in terms of education, family, job, wealth, which are appendages after we begin our journey here. The more the zeros after the one, the more we feel we have arrived, and started making a mark. That is life anyway. However, when we lose the all important One before the Zeros then we are nothing. When we trade our character for the rest of our possessions, we are lost and start drifting. It is not easy to stay rooted but we can at least not forget our beginnings. I have tried my best to anchor myself to who I am and the rest are mere additions that are fleeting. Hope you can appreciate this analogy and add your responses too. I don't think life is the same for everyone and I often don't understand why someone struggles with bad things all their life and someone lives comfortably.

At times we have severe health issues and that make life a burden. Then again a few convert adversity into an asset. They learn from the hard knocks of life earlier than those who are privileged and thereby get a head-start in life. Me and my brothers started with the very basics but worked very hard to get to where we are now - fairly well placed and in retirement.

@Nevena83 That is how I look at life. I see a few not knowing where their next meal is going to come from but just get along day by day.

@Shiva49 Yes, people who have health problems really have a hard life. Sometimes when I feel sad, I think of all these people and realize that I should be grateful.

I live everyday as you have described here Shiva. My foundation, my rock was my early beginnings and it has served me very well in staying grounded inside the storms of difficulties. I have no trouble assimilating with others also for the greater good in the end.

That is nice to know Ocean Tiara. I rarely get carried away as who I am is rooted to the reality of life here.

Yes, education and knowledge. When we share our knowledge, it gets enriched in us too.

Life is what it is. It’s how we make the best of what we have and strive for what we want out of life.

@Shiva49 Happy being retired. I had too many goals that needed to be accomplished.

Yes, we need to have goals and work to fulfill them. Thankfully, I did have and managed to achieve them. I appreciate others who have different goals as long as they are honorable!

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I try my best to hang on to one and do not count the zeros that follow. Life tends to spin out of control despite our best efforts.

I think that is a great analogy, siva. God is one himself, but he adds many zeroes after his name, and he makes them all ones then too. So, God multiplies his one in every other one, as long as God remains the only one that can add zeroes to himself; if we try to copy him in this, we only ever mess ourselves up, as we should stay the one he created us to be as much as we possibly can, and so be true to our self, our own one, as God created us to be.

@Shiva49 Is 8 billion zeroes better than 8 billion negative ones though? Can some people carry a negative one instead of a positive one? I think that the purely evil person can do this, think of Satan, he gave his own one back to God, and lives from his negative one now completely.

@innertalks That reminds me of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) that carry negative marks for wrong answers. Then the sum of scores could well turn out negative imploring us to make a quick exit! Some exams are evaluated on the spot. At the end, we are asked to press the key for answers. Pass or fail and the machine is unemotional as it spits out the result! It looks like the Satan is relentless as he has a vice grip on the many zeros here or at least those that matter. The current for the majority is too strong to fight against and they are carried away too relentlessly. Like in Indian films the handsome hero, with the most beautiful damsel in his arms, has to appear to nail the evil Satan. It is beauty against the beast in the end!

Thanks Steve, without the one before the zeros, they are worth, well, a big zero. The one is indeed God, our creator, to start with, and when we lose the connection we are big zeros, worth zilch. Other species add value but we can destroy big time, create havoc, mayhem. The continuous "mine, yours" debate blurs the one and we are now close to 8 billion zeros - if only we took care of the basics then the one before will add immense value.
