The Man Who Sprays for Mosquitoes

Last night, we left the back and side lights on. We do this for the company that sprays for mosquitoes/flies in the evening. By 11:00P he still hadn't arrived, so Jay finally turned them off. There were millions of bugs being drawn to those lights, the porch was covered! This morning I asked if the guy had sprayed last night. My husband said he didn't know if they showed up or not. When I looked outdoors, there were all kinds of dead bugs all over the porch. Apparently, they had arrived to spray our yard, while we were asleep. We don't have as many mosquitoes this summer. The tree swallow birds in the house with babies love mosquitoes. They catch them and feed to their babies too.

I worry about our birds, eating these mosquitoes after being sprayed.

@CarolDM The company claims their spray isn't harmful, but I don't believe them. If it kills bugs, then it's toxic!

Mosquitoes are more common during rainy season here too. Mostly because they managed to lair eggs around that time. Living near the wood makes it worse. Mom would go to the backyard and brought back mosquitoes with her. Those mosquitoes seem to love me more than her afterwards.

I didn't know they had that kind of service, although I think DianneN has it done too.

We don't hire this company, our city administration does this. It comes out of our taxes, for sure.

@kobesbuddy I see. In bad mosquito years we have spray trucks that come down the street every so often.

I am one of those people that mosquitos seem to avoid, but my wife can be bitten so many times if she is exposed without using a deterrent.

I noticed that there are not as many mosquitoes as last year, I hope they found a system to get rid of them.

I was surprised when the mosquitoes didn't bombard me, near the woods.

They always spray at night, that's when all of the bugs come out.

Our city hired the company to spray for mosquitoes, twice a week. They first contact us by cell phone, so we will leave lights on to make visibility good.

I do not think we have anyone spraying in our community. In Marion, ten miles away, we do. I have planted a number of plants that are supposed to repel mosquitoes and flying insects.

I've heard that citronella plants repel mosquitoes and other insects.

Guess they were able to do it in the dark. I'm glad you don't have as many. Not sure what it's like here, because I'm not out at night.

It's far too late for us to stay up, to turn those lights out. Jay just said, 'Ta heck with this!' He turned the lights out and went to bed
