Our bookcase is now finished

We had a busy but good day yesterday. I was a bit stressed as, at 9.00am, we had to take my car to be detailed which would include picking it up when it was finished; we had to pick up the new car at 10.00am; our Ikea units could be delivered with just 30 minutes notice; we needed to shop for groceries and we were invited to our friends’ house for 5.30pm drinks followed by dinner. I could see these all tumbling on top of each other but in the end everything dovetailed very nicely. The car detailer bought the car so we didn’t have to worry about picking it up. The Ikea components arrived next and off we went to pick up the new car. Driving home in the Toyota, I missed the turn off to the freeway but was able to get reorganised and arrived home just behind Vince. We then went shopping but Vince forgot his wallet so they put the basket in the coolroom while we went home for it. After lunch we even got the bookshelves made. There is a CD unit between the bookcases but we’re going to take that out and move it forward flush with the bookcases. Doesn’t it look nice?

@allen0187 Not quite but I have two other bookcases that Vince made when we were first married. They are now only half full and have some knick-knacks on the top shelves. I'll write about them one day.

We have enough CDs to fill another CD unit so we might buy another. We have room to put it in next to the other one which would look better than tacking it on the right-hand side.

I like it because it is elegant and simple. I bought an Ikea table before and my son installed it. One disadvantage of Ikea is that you have to install it. Although my son is a teenager but he is good at it

Some of the pieces are tricky to install but now Ikea will get someone to install stuff for you if you don't want to do it yourself.

@LadyDuck The thing is that we rarely listen to CDs. We are going to take some with us when we go driving with the caravan and listen to them in the car. When you start reading the titles, you get all enthused again about wanting to hear the songs.

Yes, you're right. We thought they were very reasonably priced particularly the CD unit. We have room to fit another next to this one and we have enough tapes to fill it so that's probably what we'll do.

Because of the height and the weight of books we have secured the units to the wall. The shelves have slots which fit onto little pegs so they are quite stable.
