Not in the same league!

A few days ago I visited neighbours and they told me they were still eating spinach from the perpetual spinach plants I gave them last spring. They proudly showed me a few weedy-looking plants about 6 inches tall. I was pleased of course but a bit taken aback - I have the same plants and mine are about 6 feet tall, they are taller than me! This weekend we were visiting friends. I thought of taking some rhubarb but was told they already had a rhubarb plant that was doing really well, so when we went into their garden I was surprised to see a pathetic few thin stems in their garden bed, again my rhubarb is about ten times the size! I guess it’s all about expectations. As long as they are pleased, that’s fine : ) All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2021.

Thank you. Yes it really does; I am constantly 'feeding' mine!

That's very true, I've added heaps of compostable stuff to mine.

@Fleura That's the difference, you feed your land and that's why your plants are more advanced.

I think you are right, the important is that they are happy with their vegetables. The quality of the soil is important, but also the organic fertilizer and the position in the garden.

@Fleura I never say a word when people show me something very proud of what they are showing.

I’m sure I’m in the category with your neighbors. My spinach is bolting now, but I noticed a few more tomatoes, a zucchini, and one new pepper. I’m overjoyed!. Your garden is so lush!

Thatnks! Yesterday I picked the first few pods of peas and today I harvested the first of the broad beans for dinner, which is quite satisfying : )

@Fleura How awesome! I'm about to pick lettuce and what's left of our spinach for a side salad. It's so gratifying to do that!

You certainly do get more out if you put more in!

I think the very first things to look at here is soil quality , ideal amount of water plants get, and how and where they are planted in terms of position to the sun. Pleasure and fulfillment is subjective you know

Yes you are right. I'm just glad they are pleased and I didn't comment on the size : ) I put a lot of time and effort into building up my soil with loads of compostable materials of all sorts, and I think it pays off!
