Hi guys, Hope all of you are doing good. I am doing good too. I believe that we should show empathy towards others rather than sympathy. Empathy means the ability to understand and share feelings of others whereas sympathy means feeling sad or sorrow for others. Personally speaking, I don't like sympathy at all because it does no good. When you are emphatic towards people, you help them to grow and move on from difficult situations in life. Share your thoughts about it. Have a good day. Take care!!

The exact meaning of empathy is - "the ability to imagine how another person is feeling and so understand his/her mood" I show empathy to those who need it. I try to put myself in shoes of others and try my best to understand their situation. Thereafter, if I am in a position to help them, I do. Wherever needed I show my sympathy also, for example if someone has suffered some injuries I will sympathize with him.

@dpk262006 You are absolutely right. We need to put ourselves in their shoes before making any comment or suggestions. Everyone thinks and feels differently. What we feel right might not be correct according to other person's view.

Empathy/Sympathy Some people say that there is a difference there, between these two ways of behaving towards others, but where does love fit in to this equation though? Showing a warm connection to someone is loving to them, which is empathy, showing a colder connection to them is sympathy which still connects to them, but not from love, but from some other emotion, such as sadness, instead.
