We've done it! Our wardrobe is in place

We’ve done it! Well, almost. We now have built-in Ikea wardrobes in our walk-in area. The photo shows our bedroom during ‘building’. The wardrobe is two metres high (2+ yards) and the doors are mirrored and a metre wide so they are very heavy and awkward. Because of this, we built them in the bedroom. We pushed the bed to one side and covered it with an old cloth. Then we moved in two trestle tables, a leftover from our Music Shack days. When we put the third mirror panel in place, we rested the top of the door on the bedside table. We put a couple of books underneath to bring it to the right height. Although the door was heavy, we only had to manoeuvre it a very small distance before lifting it onto the rails. One section has two hanging rails; the other section one rail and four drawers. The drawers have glass fronts. So, in the end, it wasn’t too difficult at all although it took us most of the day. We did have visitors in the middle of it all. We now need to adjust the height of the doors and put the flashing down the sides and we’re done. We’re expecting more friends today. It would be nice to have our clothes back in the wardrobe before they come.

I’m sure it will look great once it’s all put together. That’s called teamwork.

That was smart to build it in the bedroom. Glad that it's all coming together and now you'll have a place to hang your clothes. You both certainly have been busy

@JudyEv I would like the mirrored doors. It probably makes the space look a little bigger too.

I was really concerned about the mirror doors as they are so tall and so heavy. But they're in place now and look great.

You did a beautiful job, as a team of course! When Jay and I start a project together, it's inevitable his phone rings It's usually Al, asking Jay to assist him in some way

@kobesbuddy There are very few people who can resist answering a ringing phone! I have come running to answer the phone from the shower with a towel around me before today.

It was quite tricky, firstly putting down the tracks then building the doors from scratch. There were a lot of opportunities for error.

Parts of it were very complicated. You had to have everything exactly right from the very beginning or you'd run into huge problems later.

@JudyEv - IKEA makes great closet organizers. One of my daughters and her husband spent a lot of time getting their closet organized, using IKEA products, but they love the result!
