Day 14 Genesis 20:1 And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar. 2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister:” and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah. 3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.” 4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, “Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation? 5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? And she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands have I done this.” 6 And God said unto him in a dream, “Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore, suffered I thee not to touch her. 7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine. Fear causes people to do unethical things they wouldn’t normally do. This is the second time Abraham told a king Sarah was his sister and not his wife and the second time the king took her into his household. When he did, God appeared to King Abimelech in a dream and told him what would happen if he didn’t give Sarah back to Abraham. Abimelech pleaded his case before God. God told him how He kept him from sinning against Him. As Christians, you know prayer comes in many forms. All of them are communication between God and you. People don’t consider dreams as a form of prayer, but we see here God communicated with Abimelech through a dream. God instructed him about Sarah and Abraham. One of the gifts you receive when you accept Jesus as Savior and Lord is the gift of dreams. Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. (KJV) God instructs His people through dreams. You need to be aware of His instruction and not fear it. The only way you can is to spend time with God daily in Bible study and prayer. When you do, you will always be close to God’s heart. Let’s pray: Father, let me be aware of Your instruction, even in my dreams. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Yes, I agree. God can contact us in our dreams. God is in continual contact with every part of his creation, even as his love goes out like a blanket covering all with it too, and in dreams, he comes close to us, with his messages to us too, so that we might have him in our life continually present, and guiding us, in this way. God lives in our heart, and he manifests in our dreams, prayers, and sometimes through the voice of our companions too.
