Do you have power naps?

In a comment on one of my discussions, DE (@DaddyEvil) said that, as long as no-one says his name loud enough for him to hear, he can nap in his lunchbreak. This reminded me of a time when Vince had a nap at work. He had been to a conference the week before and one of the speakers talked about ‘power naps’ – a very short nap that would re-energise you. Vince thought this was a good idea so one day, he shut his office door and laid on the floor behind his desk. His secretary knocked on the door and entered which was usual for her but saw Vince’s legs poking out behind the desk and thought he’d had a heart attack. That was the last of his power naps. The photo is of this discussion on my computer and the view from my window. It’s a bit different from our previous home.

It's a lot different, no roos and there's not much of a yard from the window to the fence. I can imagine how miserable for you this must be right now.

Or maybe a climbing rose bush, those are so pretty when they bloom.

@rebelann We need a flowering climber on the back fence too (which is like a front fence as it faces the street). I'd thought about a climbing rose there too.

There is even less room on the other side. I need some flowering plants on the plant stand. That would cheer me up.

If I take a nap it is a full one. I feel bad for the secretary.

@JudyEv I can understand that. If he had told her he was going to try that it would have helped. But that is not something you always think about doing.

Yes, a bit. The scene out the window isn't quite the same, is it?

@Tampa_girl7 Thanks. I'm sure I will. We can't go back so I need to buck up and be thankful.

I don't know which I feel sorrier for, Vince or his secretary. At least nobody thought I'd had a heart attack when I was napping!

@JudyEv True, but just think about poor Vince... I bet she screamed and tried to "resuscitate" him! What did he tell you about it? I bet her scream made him jump a foot into the air!

@DaddyEvil He said he jumped up very quickly. I don't think he wanted her giving him mouth-to-mouth.

@judyev I used to take a nap in the hospital I worked in. My job was to deliver fresh sheets to the wards every morning and once I had completed my rounds by about 10 there was little else to do other than curl up in the cosy, warm, soft blanket store. My boss found me asleep and was displeasured. But there was nowt to do till after lunch when I collected the dirty sheets and “sluiced the foul” before sticking them into a giant washing machine. I do like the colours of your bin.

If there is nothing to do, how are you supposed to fill in your time? That's a rhetorical question.

I do manage a powernap occasionally. It's pretty refreshing. On some afternoons, there's a bit of lull and not much work to do. I can combine my lunch with a 15 minute powernap on those days. Since it's just putting my head down on the desk, I usually wake up within 15 minutes.

I probably would have thought the same thing if it was unusual for said person to take naps. I don't take naps at work but when I get home I always take a power nap before getting things done.

Oh, no, I downright SLEEP in the afternoon. My afternoon "nap" is usually two hours or more. I will take a "power nap" when I'm on vacation (which is why I have the "bed" in the back of my car!).

I always set the alarm on my phone to quietly buzz five minutes before time for me to go back to work. Most people don't even notice it when they're sitting right beside me. *shrug*

@JudyEv - That is a hilarious story about Vince sleeping on the floor! How do you like your new home now that you have been in it for a while? Are you adjusting to the changes? Have you met some new neighbors? Have the Covid lockdowns limited your ability to meet people?

@JudyEv - I have found that most retired people hear are respectful of the privacy of others. I guess that is true is Australia, too. Do you have places nearby where you can take a walk in nature? My husband and I enjoy doing that. So do my friends. We do not have anything like a private garden, just a tiny patio, but we have parks and wildlife areas a short drive away.

@DeborahDiane We have a tiny patio too but there are parks and natural areas quite close really. Certainly some are within walking distance.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the new house. The neighbours are all friendly but not 'in your face'. There are lots of groups to join if you want to and mostly we're settled and organised. But I do miss the space and the birds and wildlife. The lockdowns affect us a bit more now as we are in a much more heavily populated area.

I was over powered by that one power nap I had. It was around 11 in the morning and I felt drowsy. When I got up I thought it was post lunch but the clock showed it as 1 pm. Had the cell changed thinking that the clock had stopped. Then when I went to my computer it showed 1 pm there as well. So much for the power nap. (lol)

That's interesting that our phones are the same. The round power-board on the extreme right-hand side has built-in slots for charging mobiles. It's an Ikea purchase too. lol

That is funny and what a way to realize the reality stands in the way of a good intention! Never had power naps but while at home took an afternoon nap whenever possible. Yes, that view is, well, a bit restricting!

At one time, I was having an afternoon nap quite regularly but now I only have one occasionally. And yes, the view is restricting. I'll get some colourful plants out there one day. :)
