Day 16 Genesis 24:10 And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor. 11 And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water. 12 And he said, “O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham. 13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water: 14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, ‘Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also:’ let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast showed kindness unto my master.” 15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder. 16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up. 17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, “Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.” 18 And she said, “Drink, my lord:” and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink. 19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, “I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.” 20 And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels. 21 And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not. 22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold; 23 And said, “Whose daughter art thou? Tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father’s house for us to lodge in?” 24 And she said unto him, “I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bore unto Nahor.” 25 She said moreover unto him, “We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.” 26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD. 27 And he said, “Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren. 28 And the damsel ran, and told them of her mother’s house these things. People pray for different things to make their lives easier. Top among their requests is for a good job so they can have wealth and prosperity. They want status among their peers, and they want a spouse who will add to their status. Until now, we have seen how God communicates with and instructs His people. Now, we see how prayer moves God to answer specific requests. Abraham sent his servant to his brother to bring back a wife for Isaac. When his servant arrived at the place of Abraham’s kindred, he prayed a specific prayer to know if God would answer Abraham’s request. Before he finished praying, God answered his prayer in every point. When He did, the servant praised God for the quick answer to his prayer. As Christians, many times we fail to pray for specific answers to prayer. We spend our time in generalities so that our requests become muddled and we don’t believe half of what we pray for. Prayers become ifs, not certainties. God knows what we need. He also knows our heart's desire. If we don’t pray with certainty, God won’t answer the way we hope He will. Instead, we will get general answers to our prayers. We will live inside our expectations. It is when we get serious, and pray for specific answers to our needs and desires, that we will see God move in our lives. Abraham’s servant prayed for a specific answer to his prayer so he would know God’s answer for a wife for Isaac. Rebecca was His answer. She did everything the servant requested in prayer. Make your requests specific when you pray and God will answer you as He did Abraham’s servant. Then give God praise for the answer. Don’t leave out the most important part of prayer, praise, and thanksgiving. When someone does something for you, you thank them. When you do, they are willing to help you again. God is the same. A thankful heart will always move God to answer your prayers. Let’s pray: Father, help me to be specific in my prayers to You. Give me a thankful heart for all You do for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 29 June 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay.

Everyone has needs. When we're specific in our requests, God answers the need faster than when we pray generalities. Have a good day.

The Lord's Prayer, could be said to be a general template of how we are to pray. When I pray it, at times, I try to pray it more specifically for myself too. (I will say to God, to forgive me my trespasses, rather than to forgive our trespasses, for example) Yes, when we generalise, even in general talking with others, it is usually more just idle chatter than useful communication. It is the same in our talking with God. We do need to get specific. I ask him specifically to heal my digestion problems, for example, as well as for me to be healthy overall too. If we start to pray generally, often we can turn the conversation with God to specifics when we pray often to him as a friend like that. The thing is though that we must at least try to start the prayer too, and sometimes a more general prayer, to begin with, has its uses in our doing of this too.

@just4him Yes, Jesus said that to his disciples too. It was an example of how they should pray.
