Dad's birthday celebration

It was my dad's 70th birthday yesterday. I suggested to my mom that we go to an Asian bistro for dinner to celebrate. She agreed. I kept calling the place but kept getting a message that this is no longer a working number (or something to that effect). We went there anyway to check if it was open as it was close by.
Turned out that there was a CLOSED sign on the door. I am not sure if the place is temporarily closed or if it went out of business. Either way, it was a bummer that we couldn't go there for dinner. I've been to this place before a few times and the food was really good.
We now had to pick another place to go to for dinner. I told my parents about a Japanese restaurant I've been to before that I liked and they agreed to go there. We got there a little before 8 pm. At that time hubby was still at work but he was ready to leave. He told me he had to stop home to change before coming to the restaurant. I decided not to wait for him and order some appetizers.
When he finally arrived it took us a while before we finally ordered the main course as we were still enjoying the appetizers. By the time the main course came and we were done eating it, there was no time to have dessert as it was after 10 pm. The restaurant was already closed and the chef had gone home. My dad did not get the chance to blow out a candle and enjoy a delicious treat. I was disappointed about that but at least we did get some ice cream, which was a sweet ending to the meal.
It seemed like my parents enjoyed the food, which I am really glad about. They deserved to go out to dinner, especially since they haven't really gone out anywhere since the pandemic started. At least from what I know.

It's the ice cream that made the sweet ending of the food trip. It's cool. Congrats.

We were lucky that we were at least able to get some ice cream.

@Nakitakona Because the restaurant was already closed when we asked about dessert. The waitress could have declined to give us ice cream.

@lovebuglena Why? Ice cream is always running out of supply.

Me too. Normally, we would do a big party. But it was nice to at least do something.

I'm glad you were able to get in somewhere to eat. Too bad your Dad didn't get to have his cake.

Yeah. He deserved to go out to eat. They probably haven't gone anywhere since the pandemic started. Would have been great to have my brother and his family there but they are in Florida. They actually came last week I think to NYC but then they had to go back home to FL. Their move to FL was supposed to be a trial run. Seems they are loving it over there. Wonder if they will stay there for good.

@lovebuglena Somewhere without s**w and cold weather would be fine with me! As you know, I would love to move to the Keys.
