I was just reading another article about the National Hockey League expanding to 32 teams this year. In 2017 they had expanded to the 31 teams taking on the Las Vegas Golden Knights. This year (21-22 season) we will see a new team with a terrible name in my opinion.
We will see the addition on the Seattle Kraken to the league. Yep, they named their team the Kraken’s. Now I am only guessing they are referring to the sea monster. Of course, I thought that was supposed to be near Norway and Greenland so not sure why Seattle, from the west coast of USA is using it. All I know is I would not have picked that name.
We’ll see if they can start off as well as the Golden Knights did. The Knights have made the playoff every year since they have been in the league and in their first year, they made it to the finals and lost in the Stanley Cup series. Not to bad for a team that just got in the league.
The expansion draft is on July 21 then we will see who they are getting on their team. I’m sure a lot of good players from other teams just like the Knights did just 4 years ago.

I can understand why a team nickname like Texans or Saints (Houston and New Orleans respectively) comes about. But Kraken for a Seattle ice hockey team?
At least in my fan fictions the elementary school nickname for River Hato is the Waves. The name River Hato is inspired by a former U S military base in Panama called Rio Hato which is now Scarlett Martinez International Airport.

@Bensen32 I know what you mean since I can never figure out why the Utah basketball franchise has the nickname Jazz since there is no record of Jazz music history in Salt Lake City.

@Deepizzaguy LOL, yeah that is odd. Like if they use an animal name that could make sense. Like the Miami Dolphins, they are by the ocean that has Dolphins, ok makes sense. Then you have Chicago Bears, umm there are no bears in Chicago.

Maybe the name isn't really so bad. They could surprise us.
