First of all, I'd like to wish all of our United States members a very Happy 4th of July! July 4, 1776 was when the Declaration of Independence was signed which stated that the 13 colonies were no longer subject to British rule. We probably will have a hot dog or hamburger and some potato salad today. Nothing else planned. The home fireworks last night were numerous and loud. I'm glad we don't have dogs anymore. They would be terrified. I imagine we will have another round of noise tonight; but there were so many last night that I can't imagine that they have any left! :-) Have you seen or do you plan on seeing fireworks? Our Meals on Wheels program is going well. Most of the meals are tasty; and all are very filling. Wednesday our little housekeeper is coming; and I have quite a list for her to do. Thursday I will have to drive to the dealership to take my car in for recall maintenance. Hubs will be driving as well since it will take about 3 hours. While they are doing the service, we will go out to eat. As you know, I dread driving; but fortunately I don't have to go on the freeway; so it won't be so bad. There's a 40% chance of rain...I just hope we don't get any downpours. Nothing new on the other house. The waterproofing and foundation work is still scheduled for September. This will delay our vacation by a couple of weeks; but it can't be helped. We are starting to talk about the Florida Keys again. My husband wants to give it a try. We can always stop at any time if the driving gets to be too much for us. Are you making any vacation plans? Photo Credit: In an email from a friend

I love this photo, all the same color, beautiful! I enjoyed our vacation in the Florida Keys, but hurricane season is not the best to be there.

@LindaOHio I remember a strong hurricane in late August in the Florida Keys, it was 1992, I think it was Hurricane Andrew. We used to go to that area (or the Caribbean from mid-November to March, it was also less hot.

@LadyDuck When we went in the 90s (I think) we dodged Hurricane Opal the entire time we were there.

Hubby's friend was hosting a 4th of July thing in his back yard. He does that every year. We went. Thankfully, it was not super hot yesterday. There was even a bit of a breeze at some point. I had a broccoli salad, which was actually quite good, and managed to eat most of the burger, which I wasn't a fan of. I would have liked a hotdog but didn't eat as had no idea if there was pork in it or not. Hubby asked the caterer what meat the hotdogs were and the guy had no idea, which was weird, considering that he said they make them themselves.

@LindaOHio Perhaps the person himself was not the one who made them but he does work there so should know what he is serving. There was a bit of a grease fire on the grill. The fire extinguisher seemed to put it out but then it started up again. Someone at the gathering came up and did something to stop it. Glad it did not spread anywhere. The house was recently remodeled after something caught fire and burned part of the house down.

@lovebuglena That's terrible about the house fire! I'm glad the grill fire didn't spread.

I'm glad it wasn't miserable at the cookout. Odd that the caterer didn't know what was in their hot dogs. They should know everything about what they serve as people have different dietary restrictions.

If you're not dodging hurricanes when you visit the Keys in September, the weather should be beautiful!

@LindaOHio Opal was before my time, but it is still one that is talked about frequently throughout Florida.

There was one year that we dodged Opal. Had some severe thunderstorms but otherwise did OK.

Fabulous photo! Happy 4th to you. Had a busy weekend and going to our son’s house for the 4th. A treat not to cook for a change. Very happy about the Keys!

I absolutely love this photo. Lots of nose here for days. I enjoy a few minutes of the Nashville show live. I can mute the sound. It is beautiful. No plans for now. I know you will enjoy a meal when you go out Thursday.

I hope you do get to go to the Florida Keys. Driving can be quite disturbing. I plan to head out on a road trip next month. I kind of look forward to it and I kind of don't.

I went over to my great-aunt's house Sunday. I heard fireworks, but didn't seen them. The cats were room to room looking at them. no real vacation plans yet.

I have a golf tournament in central Ohio next weekend. I’ll probably go somewhere after the following tournament (which is in central Indiana), given that I’ll have had my second shot by then and shouldn’t have to worry about side effects of the vaccination.

You'll be about 2-1/2 hours from me. Too bad you won't be closer. Good luck at the tournament; and I hope you don't have any side effects from the vaccine.

Thanks. In the picture I hope that people get the similarity between the markings on the dogs and the markings on the pony/horse.
