When in Doubt, Leave it Out

I've been working hard on Vendetta. I have ten more chapters proofed against Grammarly, so halfway through the manuscript. I also read through two more chapters. I'm not quite as far with the readthrough as I am with the Grammarly edit. I made minor changes, one that I couldn't find info on in the Chicago Manual of Style, so I took out the name. No need to get into trouble needlessly. I know you can't name product names without permission, but I couldn't find information regarding airlines. So, I took the name of the airline out. Better safe than sorry. Other than that, not much happening. I made a little headway with packing and getting my exercise. Though I didn't go to the Y this morning. My left hip hurts to the point of muscle spasms, so it's best to take it easy and let it work itself out. I hope I can do that with all the packing I need to do. I'm still packing the living room. I have two more boxes packed. I might still have two or three boxes left in there before I start in the kitchen. The picture above shows the majority of what I have in the living room with books and knickknacks. It doesn't show the entertainment center's two shelves or the secretary with its two shelves of books. Plus I have the shelves and pictures on the walls to pack. Anyway, lots to do. That's what's happening here. How about you? How's your day going? Time for me to get off the computer. I'll return tomorrow for more interaction before I begin work again with Vendetta and packing. It looks like it could take the full two months to get this packed. Thanks for reading. The picture belongs to me.

Wow, it is probably going to take you a long time to carefully pack all those KnickKnacks and figurines. How far away is your new place? Is it just across the courtyard or something?

Almost out my back door. It's the complex I pass on my walk to the trail. So, very close.

I was re-reading through a Mexican cocktail/snack cookbook today and found 2 editing errors in just the acknowledgements. My eyes rolled so hard back in my head.

Every book I've been reading has spelling and typo errors! Why? I can't imagine how this happened.

@NJChicaa I find them all the time in books. My brain trips over them when I see them. I'm a typo freak. I can't stand them and do my best to get rid of them. Scarred has three editions. I didn't realize all the typos in that book - homonyms. I took care of them in the second edition. The third edition is because I fired my editors and needed to get their names off the book.

Packing is hard work. I'm easing into the latest Yule Tale- it needs a little more tweaking.

@just4him Nineteen single spaced pages since my daughter- she helps me format it. Going to have to get this one double sided for sure to save on postage.

Better to avoid to mention the airline if you are unsure of the copyright rules. Packing books is easy, packing knickknacks is a pain, you have a lot of work to do there.

@just4him We had to pack because of the international move. We used smaller boxes for the heavier books, but they were heavy to move around. It was hard 15 years ago, I am not sure I could now.

The good thing is, it's almost done. I'm not packing the larger heavier books. I would never lift the box. Nor could anyone else.

I am sorry your left hip has been hurting you. You are making progress both with Vendetta and also with getting ready to move. I know that you are excited to. I took a friend to the eye doctor this morning so she could get a shot in it. She goes every other month for one. The month in between she goes to be checked and have scans to see that the shots are working. It is a long process. Mike's dad went through the same thing. Hope you have a blessed evening.

Thank you. It's a little better this morning. Either that or the Ibuprofen hasn't worn off yet. I'll go with it's doing better. Yes. I'm excited to move. I expect this will be my final move. I don't see myself moving again unless my kids put me in a nursing home. I don't want that. Thank you. It was good. I hope you had a blessed evening too.

Good luck with the packing. I am dreading the thought of ever packing up if we move to a smaller house. I will have to be quite ruthless as my wife is an horrific hoarder.

So far as I remember from my editing days, you can use brand names so long as they are used in context with the brand itself. For example, I can have my character eat a Whopper. This is perfectly fine. What the rule generally refers to is referring to something that is a brand used in a generic way. "She wiped her nose with a kleenex." It is not capitalized and the word that should be used is tissue of course. Another common example was Xerox. "She handed me a xerox of the document." Of course the proper word is "copy."

I saw the Kleenex example in the book. There wasn't any reference to airlines, so I just used airline. It works.

@just4him Yeah. And worst case scenario, it can't be that difficult to make up a name for a fake one.
